Who in their right mind would believe that a majority actually wants to keep Obamacare subsidies?

Many early retirees are probably taking full advantage of the ACA marketplace until Medicare kicks in at 65.

I have been on aca since I retired 10 years ago. I am counting the days I get on Medicaire. I am forced to pay 1650 a month just in case I get cancer or some disease that can bankrupt me. Sad that I pay that just to keep living. Medicaire all in will run me about 500 and not a dime paid after. Other than a few dollars here and there. Obamacare is a ripoff

Well, a lobbyist explained it to me yesterday. I don't agree but this gives you an idea.
In Mississippi, the expanded subsidies have actually reduced the numbers of people uninsured. Doing so is much cheaper than expanding Medicaid, which will cost more and also hurt health care providers as many times they don't break even. I was told the subsidies help the working poor, those who are trying to work their way out of poverty.

The only people that want to keep Obamacare are the same ones that get earned income credit checks at tax time.

Call it what you want, racketeering, extortion, or organized crime.

Health insurance costs under ObamaCare have increased substantially every year. The CBO projections were always BS.

I retired at 59. After looking at options I went with one of the Christian based insurance programs primarily to protect against catastrophic situations but paid for most everything out of pocket. While I’m in good health, my wife has a number of issues and sees several specialists regularly. Even with that my total annual outlay was considerably less than if I’d have used one of the ACA promoted programs.

Does The Republican Party have a viable alternative to the current system? Obviously none of them are going to support a single payer system, but most every alternative I've seen is only good if you never get sick. Getting cancer is financially ruinous if you make anything less than upper middle class money.

Medicare works well.

Depends on if you put "Obamacare" in the polling question

Of course not.

Scrap it and go back to free market insurance. It would lower the cost bigly.

It was never a free market.

I think it would mostly help those who never get sick. If you have a pre-existing condition I don't know if you're in any better shape than you would be now. Probably worse.
I would like at the least like to see Republicans attempt to get health insurance decoupled from the workplace. It's hardly a free market if I'm stuck with whatever options my job presents to me, and I would imagine employers would love to not have to worry about the overhead it presents for them.

$1,650 is probably about the right price for health, dental, and eye. If it’s for more than 1 person it’s a really good price. If you had insurance through an employer price it be $500 to $600 a piece out of pocket for platinum plan and the employer would match your contribution. For a cheaper health plan through an employer it usually cost around $375 to $450.
With Medicare the $500 out of pocket is at least a $1,000 plan. Even with Medicare cancer care is not cheap.
Sisters-in-law said the insurance people don’t keep up with when they get on Medicare is life insurance. Most people think they have life insurance with Medicare and they don’t. No Medicare plan has life insurance.

OAN and RAV exist. They're better than you think.

You can bank on these being made permanent by Trump after the Dems end the shutdown. This will be the issue to avert the next shutdown in like 6 weeks, if the Gov opens on Monday.
The whole shutdown is a TDS melt.....they are fighting over a bill to keep the Gov open for 7 weeks.
Trump will push for the ACA expansion because it is popular and giving them that will take away a potent angle they are using to attack the GOP and help shore up some declining independent support

To point out, if you’re an early retiree, you probably have plenty of money

You’re very correct. But that’s what insurance is. Insurance is about risk management. If you’re guaranteed to take more from the system because of your risk profile, you’re guaranteed to pay more into it.
Now…. I’d say that I would be ok with forcing insurers to offer policies to anyone, but the price would be set by the amount of risk they bring to the pool.
Either way, health insurance isn’t the problem. Health is.
