It’s pretty funny to look back at the reports of the 49ers, or at least some within the organization, wanting to draft Mac Jones in the 2021 Draft. Of course they go on to draft Trey Lance and ultimately Brock Purdy. Now, Purdy is hurt and here comes Jones to save the day.

Clearly, Jones fits the mold of a Shanahan quarterback. Crazy how it’s all playing out.

Kyle Shanahan:

SF gave up 3 firsts and a 3rd just to NOT draft Mac

All-time caving to public pressure scenario.

They can deny it all they want, but we all know Kyle wanted McCorkle

Nothing about Trey Lance relates to a Shannahan QB in any way

The funny part is if they had just sat back, they could have drafted him without any BS and still had those extra 1sts.

Time for 49ers to save the money from the Purdy contract and move on.

Purdy is good. But he doesnt take over a game.

Jones, looks like he has that ability in him.

It’s amazing to me. How many of these NFL guys get a second chance to just buy a change of scenery.

New England was a dumpster fire when Mac Jones was there

He still sucked. Way too many horrendous decisions.

Good to see him making the most of his chance in SF but he wasn't ready to be the guy when he was a Patriot.

Well, I mean, who doesnt think its a great idea for a DEFENSIVE Co to change to an OFFENSIVE Co and thinks its going to work out great, LOL.

He's a huge reason why SF made it to the last Super Bowl, especially in the NFC championship vs Detroit.

Dude is a player. As a Niner and Bama fan, I'm loving seeing Mac Jones light it up in red and gold, but that doesn't take anything away from Purdy. SF is in a good QB situation, especially if they can both get healthy.

I couldn't believe they traded all those picks to move up in the draft. Even if they had drafted Mac, I don't know if it would of been worth it personally.

You have to be on a certain tier to be able to overcome your team/coaching situation. Very few can.
For the vast majority, that's the biggest part of the equation.

Yeah. And it makes me wonder about all the people who burn out of the league because they had to go play for the Jets or Browns or something.

Can you please clarify what Jones brings to the table that the 49ers single season passing record holder inherently lacks?

They originally had the 12th pick. Mac went 15th.

Good chance they could have comfortably waiting for him at 12 and kept those picks :fartnoise:

Yeah I like the guy a lot, but we haven’t yet gotten to the part where he makes RIDICULOUS decisions with the ball in SF.

I think a lot of it was a product of being in the freakin worst situation imaginable, though. I don’t think he gets that bad on a serious football team.

NE wasn’t even close to serious.

ETA: And he’s WAY better than you ever give him credit for
