I think Riley would have done a very good job at LSU. I know that won’t be a popular opinion and they will say USCe is about the same and that’s true. The difference is the wealth of talent and resources he would have had at LSU.

I’ve never been sold on CBK. He’s living up to my expectations.

BK is a program builder

He is really good at putting together a strong program. Every place he has been has been successful while he is there and after he has left

I would have preferred our AD to not have been lazy and political and only be interested in big name coaches.

I’d have preferred him going the route Oregon did and actually did some research and hired a coach with Fire, vision, energy, and great leadership skills in Georgia’s DC Dan Lanning.

It’s not the job of the AD to appease an ignorant fanbase. It’s the AD’s job to actually do a hard core research and hire the best person for the job.

I’ll take Lincoln, but only if he can hire Ed O, Les Miles, Joe Brady & Kevin Mawae to be on his staff.

Dan Lanning was my first choice for the position boy are we kicking ourselves now. I don’t think he ever had eyes for anyone else though once Oregon and Phil Knight came calling…

My choice now would be Curt Cignetti from Indiana. Maybe the best coach in the country and LSU could poach

Honest I have no idea I dont think either is elite at this point but Riley is younger he also was scared of the SEC so probably not him.

In hindsight, I don’t think Riley would have been any worse than Kelly.

Just what LSU needs another old arse coach in a young man’s game.

A very, very ignorant fanbase that continues to double down on stupidity and ignorance as seen in all these Brian Kelly bashing threads that have exploded on to the scene as soon as we lose one game.

This is an important point that people are ignoring.

I was ok with Kelly following Orgeron, but I fully admit I didn't think a national title was guaranteed. Here's what my thought process was:

We were coming off 2 extremely bad years under Orgeron, the program was reverting to pre-Saban levels again. A couple .500 seasons and bad recruiting, and lots of the guys we did bring in, left.
Oklahoma and Texas were entering the SEC, and the conference was about to undergo a new pecking order. Kelly wasn't a super-sexy hire, but he was VERY safe, in that I had little doubt the program floor was going to be around 8-9 wins, instead of dipping to 6 or under. That was important, we didn't want to be Florida or Auburn right now, or have what happened to Tennessee happen here.

That's big. We're not Bama or UGA, but we're also not dropping off the map. People bitched about last year, we went 8-4. They're bitching about this season, we've been ranked all season and aren't considered an auto win for anyone (except Bama). Meanwhile, Florida is about to fire the guy they hired at the same time, and Auburn can't shake out of being a non-contender.
Texas will come back to earth, and we'll likely remain a perennial top-third of the league as long as Kelly is here. That leaves room to make an occasional run, and if he leaves sets the table for the next guy.
