What set of OT rules (College and NFL) were the best?

I still feel like the OT rules college had during the 00s-10s were the best.

But it’s also crazy that the NFL kept sudden death OT with only a field goal so long but should they change what they currently have again?

2000’s - LSU/Aggy NCAA OT rules were the best. Needed shifted back to like the 50 but it was good.

With current rules give me the NFL ties and all. This gay 2 pt shite college does makes me want to punt puppies.

The current NFL OT rules aren't bad they just need tweaking. After the first OT make it sudden death rules something like the 2 point battle college has.

The current college one is definitely a downgrade though needs to go back to what it was before

The old college rules were the best. As many possessions as it takes to break the tie with having to go for 2 starting in the 3rd OT.

The current alternating 2 point attempts from 3OT on is dumb

Hold on so the NFL needs to be like current college and current college needs to go back to what it used to be bc current college sucks?

I think the current NFL is pretty good. I hate the college OT. So fluky.

Yeah as bad as the tie hater circlejerk thread is making it seem, I'd much rather tie than lose a game because of some fluke 2pt conversion.

I was at last year's UGA-GT game & yeah it's sudden death and thrilling and all but it was grueling seeing a dozen all or nothing 2pt plays. It turns into a bunch of red zone gadget plays with no variety

I still can't believe they changed OT b/c of a massive outlier. They acted like OT was hitting 7 times on the regular.

Starting on the 25 is stupid as shite

The current nfl playoff rule is best by far. It’s real football and everyone is guaranteed a possession

NCAA rules but move the ball back to the 40. That would eliminate the 7 OT games because you’d need a first down to get into scoring position. Which would eliminate the retarded 2 point conversion rule

Not sure why the NFL doesn't just go another 15 minute quarter and if it's still tied after that either go for a 10 minute quarter or sudden death.

Do they even need all that during the regular season?

Save overtime for the playoffs or even just the Super Bowl (ties in playoff games result in the higher seeded home team advancing)

Or what they could do is start 1st and goal at the 25

Feels like penalty kicks, which always felt like the sport just saying, "lets just get this long stalemate over, no matter how dumb and reduced the solution is".

Aussie rules had the best championship game system before they changed it 10 years ago:

If the game was tied at the end of regulation, the two teams replayed the full game the next weekend and the winner of the replay was champion.

If the replay ended tied then they went into overtime.

My suggestion, similar to already posted, is to go back to the both teams get possessions, but begin from the 40.

Maybe even use a graduated starting position.
Like 1st OT from the 40, 3rd OT from the 30, 5th OT from the 20, etc

I'd push it back to midfield but agree. At the 25, you can lose yards and still kick a fairly easy FG by today's standards.

I like the NFL where you have to drive the length of the field. But there shouldn't be a tie at the end of OT. Go score for score. Until one team doesn't score or they score a FG and the other team scores a TD.

Maybe do the college overtime system but give the teams 1:00 of game time and 1 timeout from the 50
