I always hear that the Internet is forever, but is it really? Is it possible to erase your existence on social media sites? Assuming you don't have folks tracking your posts online, can't you just close the accounts and all prior posts dissappear? Not looking to do anything nefarious, just want to make sure Karen from HR doesnt call about something she might deem offensive (heterosexual lifestyle, V8 with headers, poking fun at Subarus, etc).

I think Facebook probably has a copy. But the average individual wouldn’t be able to find your stuff if you delete it.

There are companies that do it - i hear about one (cannot remember the name naturally) on podcasts and youtube channels every now and then.

Im sure google (or DuckDuckGo) would help

In the EU I think you can, by law. Although it isn't absolute. It's the "Right to be Forgotten" law.

To whom? The average person or someone with some skills and motivation to find something about you?

Average person? Maybe. Skilled seeker? No.

No. Ever used google? They have a copy of everything you searched for. Facebook? They track it all. Amazon too. But don't forget the NSA that tracks and keeps everything digital. Everything.

Regular people? There are ways to make it difficult to find you but probably not totally erased.

For someone the government wants to have disappear? Yes.

Actually NSA doesn't. It is illegal to keep data on US citizens without some type of warrant or order. That is what is so fricked up about Trump 2016. A FISA judge actually signed the warrant based on false statements by Obama officials.

You can delete accounts, but cached versions and screenshots will usually stick around. The internet is never truly wiped

To the DV'ers, Ive seen people to do it and there ate companies you hire to do it.
I was pretty amazed, tbh.

You're welcome to your opinion, but it in fact, can be done.
