I’ve seen a couple of different watch discussions here, so I know this board is well-versed on the topic. I’m looking for a watch that’s under or around $1000.

I honestly don’t wear watches often, if at all, and know very little about quality brands in this price range.

About specifics, I do prefer / lean towards a watch with a leather strap. I’ll be wearing this only to the office or in other social settings. Would never wear it constantly like when working out, swimming, fishing, golfing, etc.

Would you consider other soft materials besides leather? Leather strap seems to limit your options here.

I have this Citizen and like it:

I’ve also seen these MVMT watches recommended before in a cheap watch thread. I don’t know anything about them, but their leather band options look a lot better:

I like Seikos as well but none of their leather options look good

Tissot is an entry level Swiss brand and makes quality watches in that price range.

Christopher Ward Sealander or Trident (if into diver style watches). I’ve had a blue trident for 2 years and I love it.

You don’t have to limit yourself to a leather strap. Get one on a bracelet and buy multiple straps to switch out. Many brands, including Christopher ward, have quick release pins which make switching straps so easy.

Sealander

Trident

If you just want a watch that looks nice for the office and is durable, get a timex. Tons of different models.

If any part of you wants to “flex” with your watch, under $1,000 isn’t going to do it.

Watches are a very personal thing, and there's a million styles and options under $1k.

I would say make sure it comes with a mineral crystal at that price.

$845

This one is aorund $1800 but they have ones with similar looks for under $1000 if you prefer a leather band. I have one and have been very happy with it.

If you’re not opposed to used I’d look into Oris. They make a nice watch and you can find several used ones from $850 to $1300.

Keep in mind that expensive watches require qualified technicians for upkeep and maintenance. There are quality watches that look nice that are easier to replace than repair and upkeep.

It's a damned fricking shame Seiko killed the Sarb035. That was my go to rec for this kind of question for many, many years. Used to be able to pick one up for less than $400 brand new and then add a new Hirsch strap for another $75 or so and be good to go.

Hamilton, Vaer, Bertucci (I love my titanium field watch from Bertucci but the straps are proprietary) and looking at a few Mavens.

I genuinely hope you're joking

Please, please no one spend $1k on a watch with a movement that costs less than $40 on AliExpress...

Honestly in the 500-1k range it's hard to beat a Hamilton.

Curious though, you say you never wear them, why even buy one?

I've got a modest collection but I'm into the hobby. If I wasn't, I wouldn't own any of these except a gshock square.
