Live in BR. My fifteen year old daughter refuses to babysit for $10/hr. I am incensed at her gaul, but yet my mom pays her much more to "clean her house", and her peers make about $20/hrs babysitting in Bocage.

Am I crazy for being apoplectic about this?!

To be fair, that is a VERY low rate for babysitting these days. That may have been fair in the 90s, but now it's at least twice that.

I wouldn't be too mad at her

Most fast food workers make more than $10/hr these days. Cane's employees make close to $20.

That's dog shite even for a teenager.

If she goes out to eat with her friends, for just her portion of food she'd likely need $30 for entree and tip.

I'd pass on that offer.

You are mad because your daughter understands the market better than you?

I got 2 kids that come over and do work around the house for 10/hr a piece.
I know its a cheap rate. But they arent worth much more than that. TBH.

You made this thread to use these $10 words
quote:

incensed

apoplectic
And you failed miserably trying to use this $5 one

Still only $15/hr here in Lafayette.

We do have a high school relative that does it for ~$10/hr but that’s for long term summer babysitting.

lmao im pretty sure that was a low-medium rate in the 90s even. babysitting has been considered "lucrative" at least for the latch-key folks, 10 an hour is more like minimum wage nowadays...especially if peers are routinely doubling that

Pay her 20 bucks then tax her 15 for food, housing and transportation cost.

How often do you ask her to babysit? If it's not very common, comical that she's bitching about it. If it is pretty often, yeah you gotta pay market rate.

Congrats on raising a smart daughter .
She knows that’s nowhere near the market price.
