Do they actually enforce penalty if ppl miss it ? TIA

If you miss it, they will select a jury for your trial.

Yes. They will enforce your compliance. Up to the point of possibly issuing a bench warrant for you.
It’s not that bad, if whatever you have that would prevent you from it is truly important, tell them and they will likely excuse you. Their definition of important may vary from yours.

I have plenty of experience missing it.

The time I went at least a third were no shows. They just called the next name.

I'm sure it varies by location, but I have ignored jury notifications on more than one occasion and never heard a peep about it. The ones I've gotten arrived via regular mail so they might be able to prove they sent it but cannot prove that I received it.

USPS loses mail all the time. Not my fault they get delivered right into my trash can.

How can they even prove you got the mail?

My coworker in Orleans Parish pointed out they don't send it registered mail, as soon as you get don't open it/don't call, just throw it in the trash.
You never received it.
Said since Katrina he's done it 4 times, no one calls nothing happens.

Yes, in Ohio they do. I missed seeing my summons for misdemeanor court and afterwards they put a note on my door stating don’t miss the next one or else they will press charges of concept. Here it was easy, if you didn’t want to be there they would let you be excused if you asked in the first day; they actually told people who didn’t adhere to the dress code to leave and don’t come back.
I stayed and it was cake, 10-2 everyday, both Fridays off, and I was only called for one case that lasted an hour.
In addiction to my job paying me during my duty they gave me a small amount- $25 a day I think it was

If you don't show up and participate in good faith, never complain about the legal system. It is like voting if you don't exercise your right don't complain you get saddled with elected officials you don't like because you couldn't be bothered to do your small part.

I like jury duty.
I always eat a ton of red beans and rice the night before.
It's fun to watch everybody in a packed courtroom, except the stenographer speaking in her fighter pilot's mask, try to figure out who's bombing them.
Usually I'm on the wrong side of the jury box though.

It’s not that easy between FT work and school.

I just got a letter today for U S district court jury duty. I signed up for the last round and never got called in. I received one for the county court at the same time.
I’m debating on losing this letter because the court is so far away.

Dude you have an American flag after your name yet you're asking, will I get punished if I skip out on one of the primary tenets that makes America great!
If you have a legit conflict work or personal call them and they will resend you a summons in the next couple of months. If you're asking because you don't want to fulfill your civic duty then shame on you and quit implying you're a patriot.

Yes, it's a pain in the arse but your freedom's aren't always free.
Instead of ghosting out on your DUTY as an american citizen you should try internalizing the message behind these quotes:
quote:
"Ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country"
quote:
"Duty, Honor, Country. Those three hallowed words reverently dictate what you ought to be, what you can be, what you will be."

Nothing happens if you don't show up. Save your time.

I responded to a summons last year, spent 4 hours sitting in a room a s being told I could leave after.
I got another snail mail summons less than 6 points later. I learned my lesson a d tossed that one. Never received a follow up or anything certified.

I usually can get out of by telling them I work offshore. In fact I just got out of it a couple weeks ago

I got picked one time as juror #12. The girl next to me was #11. Her sister's wedding, where she was MOH, was in a few days 4 hours away. I think it was supposed to be on Friday. They did not excuse her.
We finished up the trial Friday at 4:00pm...
But they did excuse a member of the Astros organization. Not even a player, just a front office guy.
ETA, the Astros guy wasnt a player but he must've been high up because a lot of people knew who he was.
