As someone who used to treat these things like the super bowl, there isn't much reason to even discuss these events anymore. Upgrade when your current phone no longer meets needs.

Once you restore from backup you'll forget you are using a new phone in about two hours, apart from photos looking sharper, which they have been beyond great for years now.

From what I can tell, it bumped up the specs for the pros while lowering the specs for the Air.

Tim Cook probably thinks he did a great job

I currently have the Iphone 13 pro. Looks like i can trade it in through AT&T and with the credit / promotion get either the 17 or 17 pro for $0 or the 17 air and 17 pro max for less than $5 a month.

Was leaning toward the 17 or 17 air. But, with the promotion i guess i should do the 17 pro.

Any reason to go 17 pro max over the 17 pro?

It's overpriced stuff.

I've decided that when I need a new phone, I'm just going to buy a 2 generation old flagship on Swappa for a fraction of the price of a new iphone.

I'm still rocking an iphone 11 pro max, and I watch a youtube video comparing the 11 pro max to a 16 pro max. Most apps loaded "maybe" a half-second faster on the 16 PM, but in actual use they were more or less identical.

Would the screen be better? Sure. Would the cameras be better? Sure. But I just don't see the value in discarding a perfectly good phone for something marginally faster and sharper.

With regard to the watches. I'm not obsessive enough about my biorhythms. (Remember that nonsense.) At some point, it's just another piece of tech that people have convinced themselves that they need. (You don't need it.)

Agreed. You can get a mint condition unlocked iPhone 15 Pro Max for $630 or a Galaxy S24 Ultra for $680.

I'm close to returning the Pixel 10 Pro for an S25 Ultra for $870 on swappa, but I haven't used it yet because I'm waiting on a case. I came from an S22 Ultra that just needs a new charging port. I've only been using wireless charging.

its fun to joke each year that Pixel has been doing this and that for years, but this year they literally pushed out a five year old Pixel knock off and called it groundbreaking for apple

What? Pixel hardware is always bad even compared to other new Androids. You won't find a benchmark of a 5 year old Pixel that competes with a new iPhone. Hell it probably won't even compete with a 5 year old iPhone. Google really needs to do better on the hardware side, the software side makes Pixel.

Software wise, iOS will always have it's closed system limitations.

Pixels should come down in price, surprising to see Apple under cut the 256 Pixel 10 by $100 vs the 256 iphone 17

Design of the 17 vs design of Pixel
Buds live translation
Colors..

I know that the crapple club wont admit it, but this year they really did just look at Pixels and think "yeah, we can get away with this"

I'll probably upgrade just to get the USB-C port and battery boost. It'll be basically free with a trade in. I'm on a 13 pro max right now and it would be nice to get rid of my lightning chargers and have everything running on USB-C. I think I'll go with the pro model this time. I saw the pro max is bigger than the pro max I have now and I think I would rather decrease the size a bit instead of getting a bigger phone. It's already somewhat difficult to use with one hand. And I can palm a basketball so it's not like I have tiny hands lol.

What? Design on these phones are pretty much similar for years now and both have been changing the size of their notch.

Colors on the iPhone have been limited on the 15 and 16 because they made the really stupid decision to go with Titanium. 17 went back to Aluminum which gives them access to different colors again. They did other colors previously. Titanium was a really poor decision. It doesn't cool as well and caused a lot of overheating issues. They very stupidly said Titanium was a big step forward and now saying the same s**t about going back to Aluminum even though the previous were on Aluminum and made the big stink about Titanium.

iPhone 17 Pro will have 18% better battery life. The new internal cooling system and aluminum body allow for much larger battery space.

It's literally just making the camera indent larger. All these phones look the same.

What's funny is everyone shite on Apple for camera bumps at first.

It's just the Air and the Pro that went across the phone. The 17 kept the smaller camera bump.

The M5 max/ultra Macs look to be great next year but I think Apple has taken the phone as far as it can go for now.
We’re in “look at these colors” territory now. Only thing left is planned obsolescence or locking software features behind model numbers.
I want a new phone because my mini is losing its waterproofing, but I’m not seeing a reason to buy Apple this time.

Benchmarks don't mean squat to the average user if anything tte Pixel shows you don't need groundbreaking specs if the software is good enough or better. Apple and Samsung typically have the best specs, apple is the same rinse and repeat with a couple new features here and there usually it's features that have been on other flagships for years. Samsungs base is Google the One UI skin is catching up though.

Average cell user is fine on any old phone.

As I mentioned on another thread, until we solve the heat problem, the battery problem, or both, we are kind of out of new “killer” features for phones. Until that happens, people should only really care if their device is starting to show its age. I have a 14 Pro and will probably look to get at least one more year out of it, if not two. And I’m fairly tech forward.

I’m so mad right now. I had a 13 pro and it was the cutoff for the promo for the 16 pro so I figured when the 17 came out that it was gonna be the 14 as the cutoff. Went ahead and traded in even though my phone was fine. Now I see the 13 mini is the cutoff. shite so stupid.
