I’m laying beside my dog Jovie. She’s been with our family for 15 years. None of my 4 kids, even my oldest off at college, remembers life before her. She is in the background of almost every family memory we have made. I know if she survives the night I need to take her in the morning to be put down. She’s the greatest dog I’ve ever owned and as hard as it is on the whole family I think it’s hitting me the hardest. But I’ll have to get up in the morning a play the strong man. Meanwhile I feel like a little boy whose heart is being ripped out. Being a dad is hard, especially on days like tomorrow. Not sure why I shared this here but I needed to share somewhere.

I’m going to bawl like a toddler when it’s time for mine to go.

RIP to Jovie

I had to watch my beloved Golden Retriever slowly fade away after the kind Vet came and gave her an injection. He had me dig a grave before he got here and not long after the injection we buried her. It was just as hard watching her go as it is for some relatives. Never thought I'd be as close and fond of a dog as I got with her, but I was. The tears did indeed fall, as I'm sure they will for ya'll.
Sorry for your loss.

Losing a loving pet, especially one you have had for so long is gut wrenching. Prayers for you during this time.

It's the biggest gut punch there is. The unconditional love of a dog can never be matched.

I hate this for you.

I put my dog down 3 weeks ago today, 16 year old border collie mix, been with her through some very pivotal years of my life. Luckily my kids are young enough that one won’t remember at all and the other isn’t too broken up about it.

Anyways, there’s no wrong decision here you know your dog. But they’ll let you know when they’re ready to go. It’s better to do it a month too soon than a day too late. Your dog has been with you for so many things it’s the best last thing you can give her, a peaceful send off.

And it is peaceful, they administered the first sedative right here in me and my wife’s bedroom, and she pretty much didn’t move after that. Vet said she was beyond ready to go if they respond like that, so I know it was the right move.

Anyways it SUCKS but be there for them this last time since they were there for you to their last day. Dogs are such a gift and it sounds like you gave her a long happy life; that’s all you could do and she knows that.

Good luck and Godspeed to your pup.

Sorry for your loss, RIP Jovie.

I've had to do this numerous times in my life, each time hits me hard but I can't imagine life without a Lab.

Get someone to come to your house. Best way. Google it. They have them in BR.

It's never easy. The only time my wife has seen me cry was putting my old dog down. It'll hurt to talk about her but do it often or you'll realize you forgot a lot about her.

You're making the right call bringing her to be put down instead of letting her linger. It's the least we can do for a dog that did so much for us.

I have been there with exact same scenario. You are doing the right thing. It's just like losing any family member or friends. Your memories will carry you through. Saudva prayer for you

Just about there with our dog ourselves. Probably in the next week or two. Absolutely gut wrenching. Can barely sleep. So sorry.

I'm sorry.

It is good she has you right there by her side as she makes her transition.

Just had to put my 16 year old chihuahua to sleep because of a stroke. One of the hardest things I have done for sure. Both my grown sons made me wait a day to do it so they could come be with him. He wasn’t suffering so was able to do that for them. I fully get it I actually had a panic attack and couldn’t breathe while digging grave. So sorry for your family’s loss. I also posted on here about my struggle and was very thankful for all the support and advice during that time. Don’t think we will get over it but will learn to live with it. Just know dog that gets that age was very loved and well cared for. Sure they were blessed as y’all were to be in your life.
