May have been discussed already . Was the lack of deeper passes a product of what Clemson was doing? O line not giving Nuss enough time? Not bitching , we won, but was curious why with our deep threat receiving corps, we didn’t see more of that.

I think the coaches wanted him to get the ball out fast.

They were helping both the OL and Nuss by limiting it the short/quick throws. The defense was playing well enough so they could afford to do that. It would have looked much different if the defense would have started to struggle.

There were a few shots they wanted to take outside of the slot fades, but they ended up being check downs.

With this defense, we don’t have to be risky at all. However, we will need to hit shots. Expect this to be a focal point this week.

When we did throw deep for a touchdown the refs just took it away.

For goodness sakes don’t say anything on here about LSU not throwing deep. I got grilled the other night for simply saying I was suprised LSU didn’t use the vertical passing game with Hilton or Anderson at all.

Clemson played two deep safeties about 50% of the time and they wanted Nuss to get the ball out quick.
There will be plenty of deep balls thrown when the opportunity presents itself.

Nuss will need to throw the intermediate ball a lot more this season. 10 yard slant passes aren’t going to cut it if you want to win on a consistent basis.

Offensive play calling looked somewhat better…however I wished we used the middle of the field more instead of just passing to the sidelines…
Running game was a real surprise and a big plus
Clemson’s defense was not impressive at all

supposedly the best DL we would face, the thought was quick passes, let the receivers make yac.

Keeps QB clean,
Easier to block from OL standpoint
The DL spends more energy and doesn't really impact the throws
DB's have a choice to make, play off and give up 3-5 yards / or
Play tight and potentially have the top blown off

Good game plan for that D, it will be modified accordingly.

My only gripe with GN is late in the game, we were trying to run out the clock and he was snapping the ball with 25 seconds on running clock! why do that

My take was that we were taking what they were giving us, and the way the defense was playing that was enough.

That said, I didn't like the last couple series as we were trying to burn clock instead of trying to put them away. That's the main thing I'd like to see changed.

Was coming here to say this. If I had to guess, don’t even give them the opportunity to make the big hit/play. Get the ball out quick.

It was the game plan, you don't average getting the ball out in 2.1 seconds with only 2 pressures and 1 sack unless that is part of the game plan. I think we will see the most fluid offense LSU has had in a while this season. Which makes us less predictable. That is good.

A lot of people in game bitched about Sloan and the play calling. I thought he did a great job. He never abandoned the run. Short passes to take Clemson biggest strengths out of the game. They ran Z Thomas twice before that reverse WR pass. That had Clemson fooled. Running him set that play up perfectly. Joe did a great job Saturday.

Going forward Trey Dez single high in the red zone is going to see double teams. That will free up other guys. Dude is such a weapon.

The coverage that Clemson was playing was to eliminate getting beat deep. So that is why we went with the underneath routes. There was only 3-4 times when a 1-on-1 downfield was an option and Nuss took those shots to Sharp, Green, and Brown.

If the running game and quick passing game keeps being productive the deep shots will come. Don't worry. It was just good to see us being able to control the game with the quick passing game and running game. The line will get better at run blocking as the season goes on as well.

Destyn Hill getting hurt will be curious to see how bad it is. Because he supposedly won the starting role with his preparation. Hes a speedy receiver too.

Clemson played a 2 high shell all night. That’s the answer

That play was only 30 yds and was the only time I noticed them running a single high safety.

I think the game plan was start conservative and minimize mistakes. Then they started opening up the field in 2nd half. It was frustrating to watch for sure but it worked.

They wanted to neutralize Clemsons DL. Nuss' average time to throw was like 2.14 seconds or something insane like that . I also think they realized after Clemson went 3 and out so many times that we weren't going to have to score a lot.

They were blitzing the hell out of us early on. We had to implement the screen game as an adjustment to relieve that pressure and open up the intermediate lanes for massing. Deep balls were likely to not succeed until we broke their blitz game with the screens.
