(AP) - An 11-year-old boy was fatally shot in Houston after a prank in which he rang the doorbell of a home and ran away, police said Sunday. The boy had been ringing doorbells as a prank late Saturday evening, the Houston Police Department said in a statement. Commonly referred to as “ding dong ditching,” the prank involves fleeing before someone inside the home opens the door.

The boy, who has not yet been identified, died of his wounds Sunday, police said. Police spokesperson Shay Awosiyan said that officers were still investigating and had not arrested anybody in connection with the boy’s death as of Sunday evening.

Officers received a call about the shooting just before 11 p.m. local time. Police said the boy was wounded when they arrived and taken to a nearby hospital, where he died on Sunday. Sgt. Michael Cass, a Houston homicide detective, told CBS News affiliate KHOU that a witness had recalled someone exiting the house that was pranked and "shooting at the kids running down the street."

Yes

Assuming he ran out and shot at kids running down the street he should be arrested

Unless there is more to the story

I’d like to think there’s much more to this story than some home owners blasting people that ring his doorbell and run.

I guess you think he should just go straight to prison?

You don't get to claim Castle Doctrine just because someone rang your doorbell. The fact that the kid ran away away pretty much guarantees that the homeowner was not under threat.

EDIT: Missed the follow up post in which you confirmed that you were kidding.

I hope you aren’t going through life thinking you can shoot someone for ringing your doorbell because you’re going to prison

You may know it under a different name. We called it "ringing and running."

You just ring someone's doorbell and then run away so that when they answer the door no one is there. That's it.

Never heard this one. It was called some kind of knocking, I forgot what exactly. Maybe Randy Marsh can remind me.

I have a vague memory of that term as well. In fact, I am familiar with all three.

The predominant one where I lived was R&R, though.

Filming Tik Tok videos with his smart phone that he's too young to have.

What else?
