Do people not take care of their corvettes?

Been looking at some older ones online. 80s and 90s.never seen so many ragged out and torn up interiors on one line of cars before. Why do people do that? Not like corvettes are cheap.

That's my butler's job.
Unfortunately his mansion is a couple miles down the property, so I haven't checked in on him in a while.
Not sure what he's up to.

You're asking why 40 year old cars look like shite?

A 40 year old car is likely to have had multiple owners. Chances are high at least one of them didn't take very good care of it. Also as those cars age they get cheaper and attract more low income buyers who can't afford to keep them maintained well.

80s and 80s corvettes were trash, so you should not expect great examples.

80’s and 90’s vettes spans an entire generation that were not exactly high on the priority list as far as status and collectibility go (aside from the fairly rare mid 90s ZR1) And they will not be in the future. They were underpowered rattle traps.
If you want one to just drive.. the 97 up ones are more fun anyway. Drive better and have more power.

Interiors start rotting and falling apart after 20-25 years. Those c4's aren't very popular and aren't worth much, they aren't worth restoring the interiors of or keeping in the garage .

What would the price be on a 40 year old Corvette in like new condition?
Probably a lot.

Get a C3 or C6…..even the early C3s aren’t valued super high.

Personally, I would stay away from C4’s and early C5’s. I would caution you to use due diligence when dealing with these cars. If you are not familiar with the issues and many are hidden, get someone that is experienced to assist you with a purchase.

Corvettes are often called plastic pigs. It shouldn't be surprising that they are treated with contempt.

They look nice when new, but they don't hold up, just like camaro's and mustangs. They look terrible after 2-3 years and are rattle traps.

My FIL has a few. Two 70’s models and a 90’s model. He’s always rebuilding, updating, and just working on them all the time. It’s his hobbies. All 3 are fine cars. He just keeps making them even better.

Nor were they designed to. Many corvette owners are repeat buyers. The design concept back then was to make it last till the next generation was introduced and entice the owners to trade for a new one.
Owners did not buy a sport or muscle car as a grocery getter. The beat the hell out of them. So seeing them in poor condition should not come as a complete surprise.
