Stay with a 96.

Tons of aftermarket parts, and you can make it like new.

If you get a coupe, add the convertible cross member for stability when you remove the targa. Cowl shake w/o the targa is, umm, dramatic.

Bought the wife a C7 last year. 2016 Stingray. Great car. Got a good deal, low miles and not a scratch on it. Took it to the beach last weekend and was able to fit plenty luggage in it, you know how women pack. Got great fuel mileage also.
Definitely recommend

Only Corvettes on that era worth a damn would be an early 1990's ZR1 or the last C4 models in 1996 with the LT4.

Love the c7. Have been tempted more than a few times to pull the trigger on one.
The c7 had reached its design limits and didn’t have much more room for improvement and met all its expectations, but it was time to start fresh with the next generation. The c7 will always be a favorite though.

We looked at a C8 but, for her, the car was little too much. Besides, we liked the lines of the C7 and it is the last year of the front engine. I rode in a C8 and that is a performance machine.

ETA: on our trip to the beach, according to the computer in the car, we got 30 mpg and that is with us going 75-80 on the interstate. Took less than half a tank to get to Gulf Shores from BR

Build quality and quality control on the 1984 to 1996 Corvette was terrible. It got better with the C5 and has improved each and every generation after. C4's are slow pigs for the most part.

It took me awhile to warm up to them when they first arrived and the issues were well documented. The more I’m around them, the more I have come to appreciate the styling and the performance keeps getting better.
Can’t complain with 30 mpg when you are doing that speed.
If you are in BTR, look up the BRCC. That is a great group of people and they do a lot of things together.

Yea I have a few friends associated with them. The Mrs. is interested in doing some traveling. We have close friends with a C7, and a C6 with a Linkenfelter(sp.) supercharger and we are going to do some traveling in the cars. It's great for an afternoon drive and such. She was very apprehensive about buying the car as it was an indulgence but the deal was too good to pass up and we are at the stage of life that we said "why not?"

Road trips to interesting places or just a drive-n-dine with friends can be a lot of fun and it is a great way to get to know people from all walks of life with a common interest. Enjoy the ride.

Cruisin the Coast is coming up but we are taking my square body and not the vette. It's my first time that I am able to go due to work so I can't wait.
