Mamdani Calls For Abolishing Misdemeanor Offenses In NYC

Democratic mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani and his comrades at the Democratic Socialists of America want to wipe out the enforcement of all misdemeanor offenses, The Post has learned.
In its most recent platform, the group blasts policing and detention as “instruments of class war” designed to “guarantee the domination of the working class” — and demands an end what it calls “the criminalization of working-class survival.”
“For all of the working class to achieve collective liberation we must constrain, diminish, and abolish the carceral forces of the state — from prisons and police themselves, to their manifestations in all forms throughout society,”
On the campaign trail, Mamdani has repeatedly called for police to stop focusing on what he’s referred to as “non serious crimes.”
The DSA has also pushed to slash arrests, gut prosecutors’ budgets, abolish cash bail and all forms of pre-trial detention, scrap electronic monitoring, and end imprisonment for parole violations.
Mamdani, a Queens assemblyman and member of the NYC chapter of the DSA and its endorsed mayoral candidate, has questioned the purpose of prisons and repeatedly called to roll back punishment on so-called “non-violent offenses”
What violent crime is – is defined by the state,” he said at a 2021 protest outside the Manhattan DA’s office to nix cash bail and shut down Rikers – a promise he’s still making. ” Violence is an artificial construction,”

No more traffic tickets? Run all the red lights you want to. Sounds like a good idea.

How does the greater society vote for this. Yes, I understand the criminal element would like this - but even misdemeanors are commited against them - then they also have no recourse other than taking matters into their own hands. This is Anarchism with a capital A.

I love how enforcing laws is to suppress the working class. No. People who work do not do this. It is the leaches

Not sure what New York's statutes say, but walking up to someone in Texas and punching them in the face is a Class A Misdemeanor. This dude wants to basically legalize that? Also, Theft under certain amounts are misdemeanors. No business can stay open if there's basically no requirement to pay for their goods.
I really hope NYC does this. I'll be here for the lulz as it collapses.

They could sell pay per view for live street camera video and pay off the debt, when this clown takes office. The hypocrisy is that the arse munch would have 24 hour security around him with guns, but every other citizen is expected to allow crime to be normalized. The street feeds would be must see tv!

God, I hope he gets elected! Can you imagine how much fun we would have watching NYC descend into anarchy? I’m ready to give up college football, but I really need something to fill the void; this could be it.
Think about ending imprisonment for parole violations. That just ends the concept of parole.

In the end this guy is an anomaly. He was only able to galvanize a portion of a disaffected electorate in NYC.

fricking liberals always taking good ideas too far. That would accomplish the opposite of what he’s trying to do just like overly convicting people for misdemeanors doesn’t make less criminals and then our tax money is being spent on overcrowded prisons with guys who had a joint on them.

Does this mean groceries are free?

Cali got a taste of that when they raised the bar on felony theft to just under $1k. Shoplifting skyrocketed to the point where many businesses simply no longer called the cops because nothing substantial would be done for the crimes (if they were even looked into).
I'm hoping Mamdani turns out to have a lot of hype but few votes because his stated policies would kill NYC.

If there was a way to send a signal that would scare commies into pursing this type of stuff. Like to make an example of to show the world that this would not be tolerated.

No he isn’t. He’s exactly what the modern Democrat party (your party) is striving to be. So just fall in line, comrade. I’m sure he’ll have mercy on you.

Who is he to call for anything? The left will adore the new marxist jesus and the right will give Hannity something to bitch about. Hannity about orgasmed interviewing Newsom. They are all on the same team. The divide is a farce.

Pretty much.
Ask a San Franciscan directions to their local Walgreen's to see how effective these policies are.
