Deion Sanders says athletes should stop choosing colleges that offer a short-term payday

Not satire

His best advice for young athletes? Don't chase money when you pick a college — no matter how tempting it may be in the new era of NIL.
"I would attend a university based on staff, based on likability, based on the location that I wanted to be at, and the situation that I think could elevate me to the next level, not solely based on finances," Sanders told Business Insider in an interview through his partnership with California Almonds..

key words there
He's right.

Kind of a disingenuous title.
He just said you should care about a lot of things and not just money. This is the same thing every coach in the country says regardless of what they are doing re: deals

Deion and his kids got theirs. Now it's time to do the right thang.

Well, OP thought this would be another Deion bashing thread. But here we are and OP is wrong and Deion is right.
Who woulda thunk it?

Why would this be confused with satire?
Colorado isn’t a big player in the NIL game.

I mean he’s also in the current cowboys doc saying money was his top priority
It’s hypocritical but he’s a college football coach so it’s to be expected

He's right, don't base it sorry on the money. Unfortunately for Deion, he's got about 30-40 schools ahead of him in NIL budget where kids can choose from.

That's great advice for any career path, really. It is better to make a little less but learn more, enjoy your work, and/or get along with your coworkers.

Then everyone should choose Georgia, Ohio State, or LSU.
Alabama and Michigan are NFL factories, but their staffs need to prove themselves.

We’ll Prime was severely underpaid his first couple years in the league… and the Falcons were unwilling to make him a top 10 paid cornerback… the thinking was with baseball he was making enough in combined salary

What he's saying is what people say here all the time...

I agree with him but I can’t blame families for taking life changing money. I believe somebody did research that said only about 50 percent of 5 stars even get drafted. It’s basically a coin flip if they even make the NFL.

Nothing in there about education

Hunter and Shedeur got the big bucks to go to Jackson St? And of course they got big money at Colorado, they were two of the best players in the sport. None of that invalidates his point which is that the short term of $$ should not be the #1 priority in choosing where you'll go. Same exact message the Northern Illinois coach gave just last week.

I mean they all would if they were good enough
But only so many players can make Alabama
Only so many can play in the SEC
Only so many can play P4
Only so many can play in FBS
And so on…

I assumed Sanders was talking about the elite recruits, but you are right, there are only so many spots.

It amazes me how much Deion bothers the ever living shite of some of you. Y’all said he’d fail at Jax, then at Colorado, then he’d quit once his kids left. The man was literally about to die and is still coaching. FFS get off his dick

Every P4 program has money, but there are only so many elite guys to go around… someone has to get money who really doesn’t deserve it
