La shithole: gas stations

It’s pretty well f’ing known anytime you stop at a Louisiana gas station, half the f’ing pumps don’t work correctly.
Here’s a tidbit, stopped in LC this morning…of course as soon as you insert card it says “See Cashier”. I had to go in to pee but wasn’t about to do the track back and forth to fill up.
Fatty behind the counter says, “Were you trying to get gas?” I say, “Yes, but I’ll stop somewhere else. The pump isn’t working and I’m not coming in and out to fill up.” Then the fun starts. She hits me with this knowledge while being white and speaking Ebonics. Translation:
“You never want to pay at the pump because it puts a $100 pending charge on your card automatically. You always want to come inside because shite don’t clear up until over a week.”
Me: “thanks for the tip. Been paying at the pump for 20+ years. That’s never happened, not that I care if it does. Have a good day”.
FWIW…she had tattoos.

Some gas stations along the interstate do actually show a pending charge higher than your actual purchase. I know of a Pilot gas stations along in Mississippi that does this.

I’ve stopped at some pretty shitty gas stations, and not exclusively in Louisiana

Are you 15? Of course they do. They don't know if you're getting $10 of gas or $60, so they have to authorize it at the pump limit.

There's a relatively new Love's station north of Shreveport and all its pumps work. Few other truck stations further north that are fully functional too. I don't worry about the gas stations with out-of-order pumps you think are so common in Louisiana until I get into southern Arkansas. From that point until I make the turn towards Little Rock I make sure I have a pretty full tank. Also, growing number of E15 pumps in Arkansas too, that sucks more.

This happens to me at crappier stations when I use AMEX.
I just cancel out and use a Visa. It has always worked.
I think they set them that way because of AMEX fees.

That’s when use a debit card, it pre authorizes the charge and usually drops off after it hard posts a few days later. Hotels, rental cars, etc.
But if you use a CC, no issue.
