I know it’s everybody’s top concern/question mark going into 2025 (mine too), but I think there’s a lot to like and it will turn into a really salty unit at some point this year (hopefully before December).

Here’s my 3 biggest reasons to be bullish:

-Braelin Moore, C was our weakest spot on the OL in 2024, it might be our best in 2025. He’s got a ton of high level experience and is smart as hell (1st team all academic ACC 2024). Having a guy like that making the calls/adjustments at the line will make everyone better and gel quicker.

-Iron sharpens iron, we’ve recruited incredibly well and have a ton of guys who have really high ceilings who will be pushing for time. Specifically coen, carius, and Solomon. Jobs are going to be hard fought and well earned which will directly translate to elevated OL play. Might take a minute to figure out who but there’s a badass 5 man unit in this locker room.

-Coaching, the Alex Atkins addition specifically. I still have nightmares of FSU running misdirection/counter all over us Sloan knows the running game scheme has to improve, there was no excuse it was so bad in 24 given what we had, Atkins will help these woes a lot.

I know it’s a lot to ask week 1 at Clem lining up against Parker and Woods but to quote the great CEO, “We comin!” Thank you for your attention to this matter.

We have a really strong 2 deep.

We just have to get guys to gel and figure out the best 5. The problem is that we don't have much time to do it and need to have it right by the first game.

the only way the running game is going to improve is with a commitment to calling more run plays. Cole Cubelic made some great points on Moscona’s show recently and I tend to agree. Running backs and the Oline need to find a rhythm to the run game. It’s a lot to ask when we are way too predictable with run calls. The more Caden and Kaleb can get into a rhythm the better their production.

Totally agree.

I think the results of 2024 (which speak for themselves and Kelly/Sloan are well aware of) and the addition of AA will go a long way towards addressing that predictability and lack of run game rhythm.

4: The ability to consistently have a legitimate deep threat in the game at WR will help extra defenders not within 7 yards of the LOS

That was a big void for LSU last year

Preseason predictions are often wrong. Last year the o line was supposed to be the strength of the team going into the season. This year it is a question mark, but they have the ability.

Yup!

I think our vertical passing game is going to be outstanding. Supremely confident, to the point I feel like it’s a given (yes, I know, it’s not). Nuss year 2 and being 8 deep at pass catchers will be fun to watch. 2019 level passing numbers isn’t expected but it’s not out of the question either.

The only reason I didn’t include that is it isn’t OL specific, but yes, will definitely help OL.

There are enough players to have options for the guard spots. However, I am concerned about the depth at tackle. On the first day of fall camp, our backup left tackle was a freshman, though he has the potential to be a future star. Recently, Ory Williams has played that backup spot, but reports suggest say he has struggled big time.

Said it months ago and was downvoted to oblivion. We rushed 200 times less than the top ranked SEC rushing offense and averaged just .4 yards less a carry.

Our running game last year had more to do with our RBs lack of vision than our blocking or scheme.

We were 60/40 Pass/Run last year. The 2 Heisman seasons were 52/48 and 51/49. Sloan has to call the run.

I like our starting OTs, we’ve seen them in spot work (bowl) and they’ve been in the program a long time. If our OL coaching can do anything, it’s teach how to pass block.

I’m chalking the depth optimism up to the recruiting. We have high end guys on the team that need seasoning. I feel good that between Echols, Thomas, Curne, Ory, Calloway 1 if not 2 of them will step up and make a big leap this year. Odds are high at least 1 is a superstar.

For one long time is crazy cause one is a redshirt freshman and the other is a redshirt sophomore . Secondly everyone you named as potential big leap guys have struggled big time with just the snap count in camp . So the original is correct our tackle depth isn’t great

Yeah maybe, maybe not. You're still talking about several bites at the apple, the chances that they're ALL not up to snuff is low I think. Quality depth could still emerge, the question is when, hopefully before 2026.

I could easily be wrong, we're literally talking about "reasons for optimism".

I don’t know. I listened to the usual string of LSU podcasts this morning and it’s like they’re all in different part of the multiverse. One says our o-line is in big trouble, another says they’re looking great. One says they’re right where they should be, another says the sky is falling.

It’s hard to know what’s real but one thing they’re saying consistently is defense is winning a majority of the battles. By this point, you would hope to start seeing more balance.

I believe it, what I’m seeing is kinda all over the map too. I’m not pretending to be some insider either, I have more or less all the same information as any fan.

I remember a long time when lsu couldn’t recruit OL for shite and now we’ve stacked multiple large high quality OL classes in a row (+ transfers).

Given so many highly recruited options, which is not always the case for this program, I’m just betting the odds that enough of them will work out.

I'll add one more that goes with the "Iron Sharpens Iron" perspective: by all accounts the D Line this year is excellent. Going up against those guys in practice will only help the OL improve.

We don’t have anyone individually as talented as Will Campbell (or probably Emory Jones either) on this team at this point, but top to bottom this is the most talent we’ve had in a long time. Outside of center, I feel completely confident in our two deep.

The strength of the line were on the outside at the tackles. The problems were inside. Problems that can make an offense inconsistent at times especially in short yardage/goal line, 3rd down & redzone whenever there's penetration on run plays or pressure right up the middle. Braelin Moore at center will help out there tremendously yet guard play needs to be consistent & disciplined for it all to work at a high level throughout the season.

I agree with you, and to add to your "ironsharpenibg iron" reasoning, our improved line will and is making the oline better. They have to maintain their confidence though.
