Just got a notification that end of October my nests will be unpaired from my app on my phone. I can still use them as normal thermostats but I won’t be able to do anything from my phone. frick google. I’m going with a different brand. What do you guys recommend?

This is what the message said:

• Starting October 25, 2025, your device will be unpaired and removed from your Nest app or Home app. This also removes third-party assistants and other connected features like Home/Away Assist. Nest Protects will also disconnect from the thermostat and emergency shut off will no longer run. you won't be able to:
• Check the status of your thermostat in the Nest or Home app.
• Remotely control the device
• Receive notifications
• Change settings from your phone or tablet

Literally every other thermostat supports HomeKit or some other universal protocol where you at least have the option of taking over the remote control features from the OEM app. These will be functional “forever” with maybe some effort required in the future.
The real kick in the balls was Google “offering” me a “discount” to purchase v4 thermostats for $150+tax when utilities give these away free and new ones are $70 on marketplace.

HONEYWELL

I've moved 4x in ten years and I went from Honeywell to nest to ecobee and now back to Honeywell.

Honeywell is the best and it's not even close. Simple, reliable, solid.

ETA I had the T9 2 houses ago and they were great but I'm back to a generic touchscreen now that I picked up on Amazon for like $50.

Looks like this

Ecobee because of the Beestat app.

Ok I see they are no longer supporting their 1st and 2nd generation thermostats.

Google Info

I like my T9s they had a few glitches when they first came out with the app connectivity but they have been pretty solid since Resideo took over. I like the Honeywell geofencing better than the other brands. It’s a true geofence that use your GPS location and not where you are attached to the same WiFi. Also the individual room sensors are pretty solid.

You mean my Ecobee can do something besides playing Waylon while I'm cooking?

I need a thermostat that can override the hot flashing wife from incessant temperature adjustments every hour or so. Additionally, I need a pair of thermostats that will keep her from simultaneously running the AC upstairs and the heat downstairs.

Seriously, you may think about looking into something other than a thermostat!

You sure it’s not moving to google home? That’s what happened to a couple of my cameras.

Glad to know I'm not the only one with that problem.

I dumped Nest for Wyze. Perfectly functional, and much less expensive. I've had sort of smart Honeywells a few times, and they're fine. And yes, frick google. While you're at it, get a Wyze smart sprinkler controller. Saves us in Texas $$$.

HVAC professionals on HVAC-Talk AOP (ask our professionals) forum like Honeywell & Ecobees, rarely see issues with them, and dislike Nest with a passion (primary from damage they have seen them cause on ocassion to HVAC components in some systems).

Stay away from all, use traditional .

You’ll be replacing your a/c unit 10 years or so sooner if so

I need to see if there is a way for the screen to go dark.
