I left a job right before Covid and moved my 401k and left it in cash because I was busy with the new job. Put it back into the market a few days off the Covid bottom. Made like 40% that year.

Pulled my 401k money out of the falling market in 2008. Year later, I put my money back into my company's stock, which had fallen by 70%. Sucker took off over the next year to 25% above my sale price.

I always said that "my 401k went to a 201k; but rebounded to a 501k within a year."

I've always wondered if there was anyone that bought Bitcoin super cheap and then went to prison for like 10 years and came out rich AF

Just a bunch of RSU’s and options at $33 that went to $900. Sold a bunch at $150 and $250 and $300 like an idiot

Still have a nice chunk but nowhere near what I had.

Not really an investment but I built my house at the start of Covid and made a good amount of money 3 years later when I sold it. Just got lucky on the timing and everything went crazy after 2020.

Had 100K in a brokerage account that was in cash because I was too busy to invest it, then the 2008 meltdown happened! Four bagged that in the following year

Not really luck, because I did my homework.

My cost basis for:

Palantir - $16.11
SOFI - $8.15
Nvidia - $74.61
Bitcoin - $38,643

A bunch of PXD RSUs in 2008 at around $15/share (as well as my other vested RSUs from all 8 years with them), sold years later at around $200/share and bought my first house, which is now a rental property with about a 15% profit margin.

Those RSU funds invested into property are now passive income for as long as we want to keep that rental house, which will be for a very long time. If we dont sell before dying, our son gets it when we’re both gone. Can’t put a price on that.

Crazy to think PXD was swallowed up by XOM recently.

In 1998 I was looking to park some funds in an hurry and got a stock tip from a close, proven friend … who projected strong earnings growth in “Cisco.”

What my friend really recommended was Sysco … the commercial food supplier .

What I mistakenly bought was Cisco Systems , which turned out to be an explosive growth equity.

buddy of mine told me about an oil stock at the end of 2019. Went from $0.67 to $18 by 2021. My only regret is not putting in more than what was laying in cash in my IRA

The friend of a guy I know (who knows jack shite about investing) used his Robinhood account to buy a pretty substantial amount of early calls in GameStop on a drunken night. He’s now one of the people who became a “GameStop millionaire”. Guy was a basic blue collar worker. Framed houses for a living. Only reason it went as high as it did was because the guy didn’t know how options worked and he couldn’t close them. Every time he’d try to get the guy to help him he’d tell him to “hodl” and “it’s going to moon”. Finally learned enough from google to get out. He bought the guy who initially purchased the contracts for him a truck as a thank you.

During the financial crisis, and all the volatility, I bought a bunch of options really cheap one day that ended up being worth over well 10x the next day. I think in two trades I made something like $50k, a large some of money for me back then.

Correct.

I got Royal Caribbean when everyone else was fearful. Also got Valero, Freeport McMoran, and WWE on sale.

But I chose those carefully.

Maybe picking $TAP over Anheuser-Busch was lucky since Dylan Mulvaney happened and that wasn't necessarily predictable in 2020.

Bought home in Silicon Valley during dot com boom and sold before bust. What we made on that house set the foundation for investment portfolio today - will retire 7ish years early and that home sale still has fingerprints on retirement timing.
