This is a theory.

Do you agree with this theory?

So why aren't EVs cheap?

Not really. People will line up to pay 80k for a truck/SUV so thats what they charge

No

Merica was to sell you trucks and SUV's because they have the best profit margins.

Of the entire EV value chain, I would think the EV car margin is positive.

For the EV charging business, not so much.

No.

It's simply supply and demand.

The demand for full-sized trucks is high. The supply, in terms of options, is low. Only GM, Ford, Ram, and Toyota make full sized trucks. When you only have 4 competitors in the market there is not much competition.

The supply for SUV's is even higher. Not a ton of people are buying cars anymore. They are buying SUVs. With high demand = high prices.

The auto makers aren't charging high prices to make up for the EV losses. They are charging high prices because the market has shown it will pay it.

Evs are part of the problem.

The biggest thing is still supply and demand. So, if you are making more evs and less ice, the more popular vehicles will leave the lot faster. Meaning you can keep the prices high and not offer incentives on those vehicles.

Fords most popular vehicle is the f150. If they only made f150s and kept that supply high, the prices would come down.

I remember as a kid in the late 70s and 80s, and even into the 90s, trucks were some of the cheapest automobiles you could get. Of course, they didn’t have four doors or 20 inch screens or all the other shite that comes with luxury vehicles.

I wish they would make more bare bones vehicles.

One reason the old vehicles were bare bones was that no one could afford the options.

A factory 8-track in a 1978 F100 cost the equivalent of like $2000 today, or maybe even more.

Green and EVs have had to be subsidized since their inception. They are not viable on their own and won't be for many years. We need to let them die. When they become viable, you'll know, because no one will need to cold call you about solar.

I have no idea. They sold a shite load of vehicles in the Covid years and there’s no selections in the SUV family vehicles currently. $45k is still the starting price for low end SUVs.

Trucks are more expensive because they have become status symbols for people who spend too much money and don't actually need to use their trucks.

Not necessarily. Trucks & SUV’s are more expensive because people will pay more for them. Just imagine if people wouldn’t buy them, prices would follow demand and would decrease also…

The government getting out of the way with absurd regulations and not trying to pick “winners” wouldn’t hurt.

It’s 100% true. Your new gas car purchase is subsidizing EV development and production.
