Is Dublin a dangerous city?

Potentially taking my elderly mother for a bucket list trip in Setember 2026...I keep hearing there is a serious migrant issue in Ireland and recent issues with widespread crime. What are some of you experienced Ireland travelers thoughts?

I have no direct experience with Ireland or Dublin, however I have read the same regarding migrants and Ireland's lack of response to the problem. The person above who is dismissing your concern should be ignored, because they obviously aren't invested in your safety.
I would do research for the specific areas I want to visit and then decide if it's worth the risk based on reporting. Be aware that many rural areas are also seeing a lot of migrants.

Generally, Dublin is fine. Your concern as a tourist is pointed at the wrong demographic - it's not the migrants, who far are removed from tourist areas like Temple Bar, but the drug addicts and muggings by actual Irish teens. I've never felt unsafe there, but Dublin is like any other major city - keep your head on a swivel in the evening. Some streets, even a block over from major pub areas, empty quickly at night. Not to say that's dangerous, but I can see why it'd be unsettling for an inexperienced traveler.
Since you're with your elderly mother, don't think you have a ton to worry about being out late. Enjoy your trip.

It amazes me that some people consider traveling. They act like every country is a third world shithole yet they have New Orleans right in their own state. LOL

Was in Dublin about 3 weeks ago. Never felt in danger. I also don’t think I ever saw a migrant person.

Dublin has not much to do, other than the post office and the Guinness Brewery. GTFO ASAP. Ireland is not in Dublin.
The addicts were a problem ten years ago in that someone tried to hassle me on the way back from a pub to the Shelbourne. The area North of the Liffey was pretty heavily leaning towards migrants, and I could tell that a lot of people were uncomfortable. It seems to have gotten worse based on out of band information.
The migrant problem in IRE is generally that they've shoved them into smaller cities like Athlone, etc., with no warning or no prep, and (insert poli board commentary here.)
TL;DR: Go to Guinness, the post office, and leave Dublin ASAP. She'll be more impressed by the Cliffs of Moher, the Rock of Cashel, etc.

This i talk to people about Catagena or beach towns in Mexico and they say they would not go because of crime. But i always feel more unsafe walking around NOLA than those places.
In europe there isn't much to worry about besides pick pockets. Everything else is super rare. Yes crime can happen anywhere but it's rare or there compared to common here.
