They are just gonna make mexican Coke here and sell it as a second product. The HFCS Coke will still be the main Coke.

HFCS Coke will still be avalable to the Ozympic users if thats your thing

Both are bad for your health. This lets the market decide which sugar consumers prefer to keep them fat and unhealthy.

That will cause the very people who need to avoid the HFCS the most to continue to buy that version because it will be cheaper.

I believe coke uses HFCS 55. It's a sugar that is 55% fructose and 45% glucose.

Sucrose is half fructose and half glucose.

But sucrose is broken down by sucrase in your belly into fructose and glucose so the insulin spike is a little slower with sucrose than with HFCS.

They don't already do that?

I've been able to buy mexican coke at the grocery store as long as I can remember.

The only time I drink non-diet soft drinks is the "Hecho en Mexico" Cokes from my local tex-mex joint otherwise it is Dr. Pepper Zero Sugar or Diet Dr. B. Even if the taste is improved for those 20 oz bottles of coke they will never be as good as drinking from that ice cold glass bottle.

i agree, i dont drink many non diet drinks but the glass bottle real sugar ones do taste better

but i do find it funny that non educated folks come on here blaming seed oils and hfcs for their obesity. Im not saying those things are good for you, but they are not the devil they are made out to be.

HFCS is already broken down by the acid in the product itself. By the time you are drinking it, there is no real difference between HFCS-55 and table sugar Coke, not taste-wise or health-wise.

well the market should dictate this; everyone knows the cane sugar version tastes better so at what point does the 'new version' become the standard?

eta unless they try to pull some bullshite like making the sugar-version more expensive which would likely piss people off.

So Trump claims victory with false claims of shifting coke to sugar fully doing something Pepsi has done for decades now with their real sugar version of Pepsi.

What a joke of PR stunts this administration has become.

There are trillions of dollars wrapped up in farmers promoting corn, that’s why it’s in our gasoline and so many things that we eat as HFCS

Think about all the campaigns in the 80s and 90s about sugar-free this, sugar-free that. Do you wanna guess who was behind it? You’re goddamn right, the Midwest farmers right here in America.

Gotta look at the supply end, too. The cane sugar will require more cleaning and sanitation for the tanks, tanker trucks (these get sanitized per load, anyway) , piping, processing equipment, and all transfer lines that come into contact with the sucrose. This is a lot of money as you really cannot reuse the sanitation chemicals after doing a liquid sugar storage tank.

The HFCS has more microbial-resistant properties (not as much water) as opposed to sucrose, which has more water and is more susceptible to yeast and molds.
