An iconic area in New Orleans got a fresh new scent after a waste management operation delivered a lemon scent throughout the neighborhood. NBC News' George Solis talks to some of the residents about the zesty new smell.

Was there at the end of May and got sprayed by one as it went by. Definitely smelled better than the urine and bar gravy of the past.

They had the contract for a few years a while back and the quarter was cleaned well and smelled good every day except for maybe Mardi Gras Day.

Latoya is already trying to cut him out to get her people back in. She signed an emergency contract just last week to bring in her preferred choice.

Luckily I believe city council blocked it.

Just visited for first time in years and it FQ including Bourbon St was cleaner than I ever experienced. Didn't once feel like I needed a hazmat decon after walking around and none of the waste smells. Even saw 2 man trash patrols picking up cups paper etc. Smaller summer crowds helped but I expected the sweltering heat to make the stench worse.

I think they supposed to have a hearing/vote tomorrow on this situation
Even though I don’t frequent New Orleans I’m interested to see how this works out

I suppose the smell of shite, piss, and lemon is slightly better than the smell of just shite and piss.

Prequel to the upcoming mayoral election.

Moreno and most of the council are backing Sidney and doing what the FQ residents and businesses want. Even overruled Latoya.

Oliver Thomas recently switched to team Henry Consulting which isnt surprising considering their shady backgrounds together. Henry must have given Thomas some campaign donations.

It’s like lipstick on a pig, tears on a river, push on a shove, blue on black.

The funny thing is they intend to invest MORE to contract a company with no garbage history or even equipment. Destroya is doing everything she can to leave office paying more for less.

IV Waste, who people and businesses in the FQ love for their performance, is currently charging $5.9M a year. Henry Consulting intends to charge appox. $9M a year for 8 years.
