Nice parts of the GC and the nice burbs of Jackson are the obvious choices but I think it would be cool to live in the ruins of one of the older towns like Vicksburg or Meridian or something like that. Wouldn’t raise a family there but if we’re talking just to chill I think that would be cool.

I have lived in Madison for a couple years way back in the early 70's and really loved it. I was there ages 18-20 and loved being on the Reservoir fishing and hunting and just getting out in nature along the Pearl River in the area past the dam on the Ross Barnett where some of my friends lived.
Now, I have several friends in the Poplarville/Picayune/Carriere area that have retired there and they all love the peace and quiet of their now rural lives after living in N.O. for decades.

Coastal region … quickest access to New Orleans or Pensacola/Florida panhandle as needed.

This is the correct answer. Great little town.

Tupelo or Starkville.
ETA: Gay St Louis and Ocean Springs are nice if you like coastal areas. I was considering the deer hunting when I first answered.

Gulfport/Biloxi/Pass Christian. Somewhere near the coast.

Took a Sunday ride a few months ago and ended up around Magnolia/Fernwood area.
Seemed like a really nice place as far as Mississippi goes.
