Air conditioning is the greatest invention in the world

Lost power for a few hours last night. Hot humid night outside. Made me really think how beautiful air conditioning is. It would be my first choice of human inventions, over anything else.
If you said "you can either have air conditioning or the light bulb" - it's a no brainer. I could live with candles and air conditioning. I couldn't live with light bulbs and no AC.
The man who invented it, Willis Carrier, deserves his own Mount Rushmore, for contribution to humanity.
If they tried to take it away in the name of "climate change" I think I'd be ready for war. It would be worth fighting and dying for. That's how much I love it.

Yep.
Im college they made us write about a life changing invention. A lot of students picked shite like heart transplant, peacemakers, etc.
I picked AC. None of that shite is possible if surgeons are sweating in the patient with bacteria growing like wildfire.
AC is amazing.

You can live without it in some climates. My uncle lived up in the very NW tip of Washington, and it was pretty unnecessary. In LA, I'd easily trade lights, internet for AC.

Statues of Willis Carrier should be all over the south.

I haven’t turned on my AC yet this year

I didn't have AC until I was 22. Now it would be hard to live without.

Willis Carrier was trying to solve a humidity issue at a printing plant in Brooklyn. Best invention of the modern age. The first window units sold in 1932 for $10k-$50K.

Vaccinations are number one.

Walking out of the wet humid swamp weather we've been having into a home that has dry 50% humidity air is hard to put into words.
I don't know how people lived in the south for hundreds of years without it. Leather shoes in a closet would turn into a science project if not cleaned every other week. Salt granules become a salt rock. Wooden furniture starts to grow spores. No telling how compromised people's lungs were from breathing all that mold.

A lady I worked with back in the 90’s built a house in Woodville,MS in 1995 and didn’t put A/C in it. I don’t know how she did it.

I thought of the flavored taco shell but didn’t follow through. I’ll be damned if the Dorito flavored ones didn’t start showing up about 2 years later.

The fact that I, a poor man, lives in greater comfort than the richest men of a hundred or so odd years ago, blows my mind.
Cool clean water, with ice, at my fingertips.
Cold air in the dead of summer. Heat without fire in winter.
I'm lucky.

Places like Florida were very sparsely populated before AC.
AC single-handedly tuns some of the worst places to live into some of the best.

A/C allowed the population growth of the South. Density was much lower before A/C
