Stupid question but is it possible to drive the Mississippi levee road from BR all the way to NOLA? Just watched a video of a plane flying down the river at 1,500' and it appears that the road goes all the way.

Is it a continuous road and is it a dirt road or paved? Is it commonly used for local use?

Link to plane video is below.

The road goes all the way to Minnesota doesn’t it?

ETA: If you’re talking about River Road. It’s a long arse road. Not sure why downvoted. Am I wrong?

If you've got time, sure. I've taken it before. It's not very scenic though. Levee on one side and farmland/plants on the other most of the way.

If you mean River Road, yeah. It pulls away from the levee in some areas but for the most part you're right up against it. If you mean the path on top of the levee, no. It's not meant for vehicles and it's not paved very far outside of the cities.

For the most part, yes. There are areas where you cannot. Near Carville is one example.

I don't think it's possible due to some industrial facilities. For example river road in Port Allen stops around the grain elevators, intracoastal and the new bridge. I think it's similar in other areas.

Maybe harness up a horse and buggy for an authentic feel.

I was wondering that as well. From the air it looks scenic but thats a birds eye view.

Remember a few years ago they were talking about taking that little wooded area across the levee from the capitol and making some kind of park?

I guess that didn’t pan out?

No. There are places it’s blocked by plant fencing where the plants access the river.

And it’s illegal for the public to drive on it.

I’ve done it before and it adds a lot of miles but it’s pretty cool. There’s a section that takes you over the levee into a spillway/flood plane for about a mile where you can see the barges and boats that is pretty neat.

What’s up with that area around the leaper colony where it turns to like a dirt road and says private?

There are lots of secluded areas along that road where you can hide a body quite effectively.

I’ve done it. It’s paved and not much to see but a levee.

I thought he was talking about the road ON TOP of the levee. Not River Road.

But he is not clear. So, you’re no wrong.

As for the road on top of the levee, the answer is “no”…authorized vehicles only.

I did it probably 15 years ago on both sides. I only remember one part where the road seemed to become private property that I had to go around. I bought this book, so I could look up different landmarks while driving. Along the River Road. I liked it, but I’m the sort of person who pulls over and reads those little historical signs along the highway when I’m driving out in the middle of BFE.
