LOS ANGELES (AP) — A federal judge on Friday ordered the Trump administration to halt indiscriminate immigration stops and arrests in seven California counties, including Los Angeles.
Immigrant advocacy groups filed the lawsuit last week accusing President Donald Trump’s administration of systematically targeting brown-skinned people in Southern California during its ongoing immigration crackdown. The plaintiffs include three detained immigrants and two U.S. citizens, one who was held despite showing agents his identification.
The filing in U.S. District Court asked a judge to block the administration from using what they call unconstitutional tactics in immigration raids. Immigrant advocates accuse immigration officials of detaining someone based on their race, carrying out warrantless arrests, and denying detainees access to legal counsel at a holding facility in downtown
Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, said in an email that “any claims that individuals have been ‘targeted’ by law enforcement because of their skin color are disgusting and categorically FALSE.”
McLaughlin said “enforcement operations are highly targeted, and officers do their due diligence” before making arrests.
Judge Maame E. Frimpong also issued a separate order barring the federal government from restricting attorney access at a Los Angeles immigration detention facility.

Honestly I have to say that no matter how much we support immigration enforcement we should still support the 4th amendment. And pulling people over on the highways just because they are brown is pretty much the definition of not supporting the Fourth Amendment. We live in a free country where we are supposed to be able to go about our business unless we give law enforcement a reason to think we are breaking the law about to break the law or just broke the law. And unfortunately being Brown and near the border isn't enough. I think if everybody takes a little breath feel recognize the problem with that

You do realize they pull people over at random all the damn time near the border. My guess wouldn't be for being brown but for catching drug mules. Believe it or not white people get pulled over too. If you seem normal, have the right documentation and a dog doesn't hit on your car its all good. If they do, whitey is about to get their car torn apart. The having the right documentation is the fail part for the illegals. Just like what would happen to you in Mexico or Canada.

Yes I do and it's always been bullshite even before Trump showed up.
quote:that's still a pretty damn Brazen violation of Fourth Amendment. The fact of the Supreme Court has Let It Go on is embarrassing.

quote:are you listening to yourself? In the United States of America you think that we should be okay with the police just randomly pulling us over because we happen to be in some proximity to a place that some people commit crimes?

What evidence have you seen that brown skin is the basis for getting pulled over?
DHS these are targeted stops .

It really isn't any better in relation to the Fourth Amendment if they're just randomly pulling people over near the border. That's the entire fricking point of the Fourth Amendment. They're supposed to be an actual reason for the police to stop you. Like they think you specifically might be doing something wrong or just finished doing something wrong or about to do something wrong.

Okay... "We think you might be in this country illegally. That's why we pulled you over." That's doing something wrong, is it not? Or, to quote you, "they think you specifically might be doing something wrong", that something being being in the country illegally.
