Former LSU football coach Ed Orgeron has asked the Louisiana Supreme Court to rehear and reverse their decision in his divorce case, arguing that the high court went against long-established precedent in their recent ruling saying Orgeron owes $8 million from his LSU buyout to his ex-wife, Kelly Orgeron.

Ed Orgeron's attorneys submitted the application for rehearing Friday to the Louisiana Supreme Court — with 20 new law firms signed on to represent the former LSU coach "in a unified effort to correct this error and to preserve the integrity of the law and this Court," they wrote. The filings say the Supreme Court's recent ruling in his case bulldozes more than 50 years of court precedent and centuries of community property principles.

"Unless reversed, the decision will generate absurd and unjust consequences with wide-ranging implications far beyond this case," wrote Ed Orgeron's attorneys, led by Randy Smith in New Orleans.

Ed Orgeron's attorneys described it as a "morally jarring result."

The former LSU coach's attorneys emphasized that his ex-wife has already received a share of $13 million from his compensation, half the $1.775 million he earned after the national championship win and assets worth additional millions in property, retirement accounts and more.

I didn't read any of that but she shouldn't get a single dime from that buyout.

Absolutely insane to think she's entitled to that money and La Supreme Court should be investigated as to why she would deserve that.

Translation: “I’ve already blown through most of that $17 million.”

Ruling was 5-2. Verrrrry long shot of rehearing being granted.

Why not?

When he was being a belligerent drunk and she kept the family together and his life from shambles thus allowing his career to continue is a big part of him getting to earning that buyout

I’d have less problem with a 1/3 or a 1/4 but half is a bit much just in my mind. But you know that going into it.

How much did he pay in taxes, attorneys etc. from that buyout? My guess is he put 8 million of that 16 in the bank. How much of that eight has he blown through in the last four years?

And “20 law firms”? I don’t think they’re working pro bono. I don’t blame him for appealing because that ruling where he has to hand her a full chunk of eight million likely means that Orgeron is broke.

But I agree with a previous poster. With a 5–2 ruling, it’s not likely this case will be re-heard.

Doesn't matter. If the ruling stands he'll get most of that back.

He will be back coaching DL before long. It’s coming just watch.

Lane would love him back in Oxford but doubt it’ll happen.
