Anyone use traditional metal ammo cans to store ammo and if so, do you then store that in your safe.

I use milk crates and have them in the safe, closet, shed, backseat, middle of the floor in office, etc.

Pretty much the same for me, said from the milk crates. Crap stored all over. It is nice when you stumble upon a forgotten order. Kinda like finding a $20 in the wash, but better!

I have a bunch of metal cans and a few plastic ones that I started with. I prefer metal.

Every can has a desiccant pack or two.

I don’t store any ammo in my safe (other than what is in the magazines).

I opened the OB without my readers and thought this said shortage and immediately thought “what happened now?”

Anyways, ammo is on shelves in the safe, and in cans in the storage room.

I store most of my centerfire pistol and rifle ammo in 50 round boxes from national metallic. They make all different sizes, most of mine is 5.56 and 9mm. They have a styrofoam tray and plain white box. I simply write the caliber/cartridge and load data on the outside of the box. Hunting loads I put in plastic 20 round reloading boxes and use a reloading label stuck to the outside. These then go into standard size army surplus cans. I write what is inside each on the top and end with a sharpie. These then go into surplus wooden crates that stack nicely and have rope handles on each end. They are a bitch to move when full, but one person can do it. I have them stacked in the reloading room/shop at the back of my garage. Shotshells I just stack in the case they come in, same room. For oddball stuff and factory loads I have shelves galore all along one side of the room above and below my loading bench. Boxes of factory ammo and individual boxes of shotshells live there.

Is it safe to vacuum seal ammo? What if you vac seal without a desiccant pack?

I really liked their plastic ammo boxes and bought a bunch from Midway. I hated it when Midway stopped carrying them. I looked for them a few months ago but couldn't find them. Where are you finding them?

I did the exact same thing.

I have both plastic and metal cans for my ammo that's in the closet. Some in the bottom compartment of the gun cabinet and some boxes thrown here and there. I don't have any in the safe

They had these on sale for $5.34 on Amazon Prime Day, they may still be cheap.

I grabbed a couple

I am not using their plastic boxes. I am using their styrafoam/cardboard boxes.

MidwayUSA Ammo Boxes

For plastic ammo boxes, 20 round or 50 round, I use MTM, Plano, or Frankford Arsenal.

I can’t think of a reason why it wouldn’t be. Ammo is tough

Ok, thx. I've also used the others you mentioned, but they don't fit the 221 Fireball/20 VarTarg/17 Rem Fireball as well. National Metallic made the only plastic ammo box that fit the 22 Nosler.

I have a couple similar to this one. Welded metal with a key lock. Some of the bulk ammo is in cans that I keep inside the lockers
