i'd likely lean Ram, 3.0 diesel or a ford.

Just sold my 10 yr old f250 and bought a Ram Laramie 4x4 crew with the SO Hurricane engine. Big discounts and more standard options than other brands. Motor Trend 2025 Truck of the year and high on JD Powers survey on dependability. I like it so far.

I have had several vehicles with the 5.3 and have never had a problem out of the engine, but I only usually run them up to about 100,000 miles. I did have a fuel pump sensor go out during COVID and that was a bear to get in, but I wouldn't call that a problem with the engine per se.

If you want bad fuel mileage and behind the curve tech, buy Toyota. (Maybe their tech is now up to date, but their fuel mileage still sucks as I understand it.)

If you want bad resale value, buy Dodge.

My only knock on Ford is the last one I had was the 5.0 and it had a pretty noticeable engine noise that made it sound like a diesel. From my research, that wasn't all that uncommon in that model.

I'd recommend a GMC with the 3.0 Baby Duramax diesel. Mine has been flawless.

I will not buy another Chevrolet again unless they're giving a hellacious deal. I've always driven one since college, but had to replace the transmission on my 2010. Currently have a 2018 that had to have power steering whole rack replaced along with numerous other problems.

Yes, I would. The 10 speed transmission also seems to have a better track record so far.

However, I don’t think there’s a truck company out there that you can expect great reliability from these days. They all have issues.

Yes. Just make sure you use the right oil and change it regularly and you SHOULDN'T have any issues.

Personally, I'm looking at the Babymax for my next truck. The biggest issue I see with it doesn't come in until that rear belt needs changing around 200k miles, and I may not have it then.

For me, the 5.3 just isn’t exciting enough for the sky high price. If I have to pay $60k for a pickup now, it just as well have a screaming engine that’s fun to drive. When I bought my truck in 2017, I avoided turbos. Insisted on V8. But now I’d get a high output turbo and have fun.

There’s a reason the chev @ gmc dealers in LC are offering a lifetime power train warranty on their trucks.

If you are exclusively looking at GM the 5.3 is the motor to buy. All 10 speed transmissions in GM or Ford are not good and will have to be rebuilt at some point. Get the best warranty you can find and stay in it as long as you can.
