How many titles does it take to join Skip? Bertman and Saban both won 5 before getting a statue.

One more and he's getting a statue but I don't think the statue gets built until he retires. Building a statue of an active coach seems weird to me.

Jay’s statue would be him standing next to the rail hands on his knees looking down at a binder

The math on this is hard. On one hand Skip built the program from scratch. And what he built helps the next guys a lot. On the other hand, and old timers will argue against this but its true, the landscape of the sport is just harder to win now. More schools are in the running. More resources other places. The post season path is harder. The SEC is harder.

Skip's 5 is its own thing that probably will never be "surpassed" on principle. But i think if Jay gets to 3 in this era and definitely if he gets to 4 or 5 the conversation is more that Skip is "first among equals" with Jay. Jay would never admit that though, even if he won 10.

I think Skip would be the first person to tell you that if Johnson wins 5 NCs, even though it's over a longer period of time than it took Skip, would be more impressive than Skip's 5.

The reasons Skip's 5 will always hold a more special place for most, is that without Skip's 5, LSU (or maybe even college baseball as a whole) isn't in the position for JJ to win his 5. And I think JJ would be the first to tell you that.

Jay has 2 in 4 years here with another trip to the championship series at Arizona. He also is showing zero signs of slowing down. Dude is locked in and seems as hungry as ever.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he eventually catches Skip.

I think it's more a matter of when does he do it, not if.

It’s apples and oranges. Jay could win 10 and you can’t compare it to Skip. It’s different eras and different places in LSU history. Doesn’t make one better than the other. Assuming Jay continues the dynasty

That's exactly why Skips will forever hold more weight. The OG who built this can never be surpassed.

This is my opinion. Skip will always be #1 because he built it. Have a feeling Jay would agree.

As it stands now, he is tied with Tim Corbin among active HCs for the most national championships (2). Even if he just gets to 3, he still joins some pretty elite company.

Does anybody have 3 besides Skip, Augie, and Dedoux?

Nope, simply because Johnson would have 5 because Skip built the program.

Like I said in another thread: Jays is the LSU baseball coach, Skip is LSU baseball.

Which is exactly why I said...

But for some reason you conveniently left that part, and corrected me saying pretty much exactly what you omitted from my post.
