They must get really frustrated when they still have a weird body shape. Do you know anyone who obviously spends time doing some physical fitness activity and still has a goofy looking body?

Imagine if you were really short and worked out a ton, it would be like putting lipstick on a pig

Great genes will always be superior to training hard

I'm hog cranking 6-7 times a day and still can't get the Popeye aesthetic. It's infuriating.

Several people I know exercise a lot and are still fat. It’s a combination of not knowing what you’re doing in the gym and eating more calories than you should.

More like old and past my prime. I had my peak fitness days and have good genes. Nowadays all the 20-40 year olds are more focused than we were in our peak Gen X days so seeing those active yet still goofy bods is more common

Sounds like you're spending a lot of time checking out younger dudes' bodies.

Stick to your own age.

This post reeks of "I am subliminally self conscious about how I look and wished I was mentally strong enough to do some hard work to fix that"

I actually was inspired by a woman I saw in spandex with a toned body. I was disappointed because she was not eye candy. Why did you go immediately to thinking about men?

What are you defining as the ideal body shape and what established that definition?

Conditioning and target BMI is very important, but genetics and ethnic/racial traits* are going to go a real long way in defining how your body looks even in peak conditioning.

What you’re saying assumes that you can actually reshape your body by working out, whereas you can only optimize what the gods gave you.

* I can’t think of the right word this morning, but I’ve concluded white people (I’m one too) really only have about 5 types of looks depending on where their ancestors are from.

My buddies and I had a bet over the winter, a race around the lake at the house. One catch... Everyone started at the same weight.

One guy had an 80lb x vest and an 80lb pack on. He did make it farther than I thought. But I still had to carry his pack back to his truck for him.

People workout for different reasons.

Well, yeah. None of the extra 160 is helping him move his body. It's all dead weight. Someone who weighs 160 extra pounds is carrying weight that in some regard has function on their body. Some of the 160 is muscle. It's not 1:1.

I know a few folks who claim to work out regularly who have bodies that beg to differ.
