Are there any dating sites that truly work?

Coming out of a 13 year relationship where my long term GF cheated on me. I'm too damn old for Tinder. I downloaded both Bumble and Hinge, but they seem to be scams- 50 people "liked" my pic but none are local, and I have to pay to see who did. And the other app- a woman was talking to me there, but I get the feeling she's a bot. I live in a town of about 9,000 and I don't know how to meet women at this point. Looking for tips.
Incoming Grindr comments, I know.

What do you mean by “work”?

They all work to some degree. But you also have to put in some effort. Bumble seemed to work well. I liked it because the woman had to contact you first.

In 2025, dating apps are designed to keep users engaging with the app long term. At which point you’ve entered a relationship, you’re less likely to engage with the app.
Use those two data points as you will.

I mean- being able to connect with a woman and start something. Not really looking for sex, though that would be great. I just want to be able to meet someone that is not a bot or some form of long scam.

Hinge isn't that bad.
Real life is good though. I'm decently red pilled, but the "lack of good women" crisis is overrated. Do things like beer yoga, crochet (a lot of breweries have events), and various other things and meet people. It's incredibly underrated how well a medium attractive guy with some muscle that has his shite together can do.
To long, didn't read, get some hobbies and hit the gym. Lastly, and this one really affected me most of my life, you just cannot try that hard. It either works or it doesn't. Trying hard will always, ALWAYS come across as needy and desperate regardless of intention and will be poison to any potential relationship you have.

You're worried about the 50 bucks a month to actually use these dating sites? Maybe you can't afford a girlfriend

This can’t be stated enough. Women of a certain age are looking just as hard or harder than you. Be in decent shape, be charming, and reap the benefits”rewards”.

When you do get back into dating, don't tell them you were in a 13 year relationship and never put a ring on it. They won't like that.

What are these women of a certain age like?

I met my wife on Hinge years ago. No idea if that app even exists anymore.

Baw are you even ready to really date and get back into a relationship? How long after breakup did you start downloading these apps and looking? 13 years is a long time.

I’m not sure what you mean. The ones I’ve dated are, for the most part, fun to be around and looking for someone to live a life with. They’ve done the build a life and for whatever reason that ended in divorce. Now, that want a travel and ski partner.
Some are basket cases but they are easy for me to spot.
