It’s worthless to listen people who think we were spawned out of a rock via monkey.

Also also they promote a reaction without an action, contrary to every day law, no thanks

remember this old joke..

Scientists come to God and say "OK God, we've had a lot of progress lately in synthetic biology, genetics, engineering, etc. and we're pretty sure we know how you did it."

God says "Oh really?". "Yes. We'll create living creatures out of dirt to show that we can do just as you did with Adam."

God says "Wow, fantastic!" So the scientists go outside with a shovel to collect some dirt. And as they're about to dig their spades in, God says "No no no, get your own dirt!"

This is more important:

quote:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

-John 1:1-5

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

-John 1:14

There was, at a point, an undeniable jump ahead in the evolution of man. Take that for whatever you will, but it's factual. Something changed us.

We were neanderthal, and then rapidly evolved into something that eradicated neanderthal man. Some claim radiation/mutation, ancient astronaut theory, or many other things, but I'm not here to debate any of that. Just to acknowledge the rapid change of early man.

For those who believe in the Judeo/Christian recollection of history, they know exactly Who changed us. Whether it was directly or indirectly a tampering or "experiment" with man, it was already ordained and carried out with precise deliberation. I will not deny that I am a Christian and I also believe in evolution. Both can be true. Our evolution was accelerated by intelligent design.

The other discussion that gets to me is listening to Brian Cox for instance argue that we are the only intelligent life in the galaxy. The galaxy is 100,000 light years across. It is lies within a universe said to be 13.5 billion years old. So life has been in some form on the earth for over 3 billion years. But only within the last 100,000 years has life capable of pondering things and then explaining them been here. So some solar systems in the galaxy are older and some younger. In those say 2 billion older intelligent life could have evolved a billion years before us and we should have seen signs. But we haven't. And hence we may be it.
That may be because the earth is unique with a moon driving the seas, internal convection cells percolating and continents that drift. And a magnetic field protecting us from solar radiation. It can be said that with the best of conditions like here on earth life evolved easily.

So why does it appear it doesn't exist elsewhere?

Edit: Proper units

I understand your overarching point and agree with it. Yet archeological and DNA evidence suggests that Homo Neanderthalensis and Homo Sapiens existed at the same time and may have intermingled, both culturally and genetically.

The Arthur C. Clark short stories Encounter in the Dawn and The Sentinel — the germ seeds for Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey” — were an exploration of this theme. In the film, the sudden appearance of the strange Monolith inspires a tribe of prehistoric of hominids to develop tools and weapons.

This scene symbolizes the emergence of thinking man and also serves as a secular reimagining of the creation story in Genesis. In the familiar biblical narrative, God imparts knowledge and life to humanity — while in the film — the Monolith represents an external and mysterious force that inspires and facilitates human advancement.

This parallel suggests a commentary on the nature of creation and evolution, emphasizing the role of external influences in the development of humankind. Overall, the Monolith serves as a powerful symbol of transformation, knowledge, and the potential for both human advancement and it’s potential for evil, bridging themes of science, philosophy, spirituality and sin.

Me as well, T. God created Man in a way (Evolution) that gives Man a real choice as to their ultimate value. God or Self. If God had made Itself evident, there would be no choice and Lucifer could rightly accuse God of creating Man for its own glorification instead of Love. Which is the central issue re Good v Evil. God is smart. Lucifer chooses but loses.

Your argument is less than convincing.

Because we have not seen signs you conclude there are none.

I counter that with we have only barely managed to get a single spacecraft to the limits of our own Solar System, not even close to a light-year. Light from stars 13.5 billion light years from Earth has been detected. I'd hardly call that a detailed look at any systems between here and there.

You also take a narrow view of the conditions that can lead to life on a planet. Having barely scratched the surface of exploring the few planets in this system that is a bit of a reach, don't you think? We have no idea under what conditions life might evolve outside of the only example we can examine.

Your final question is exactly why I can no longer stand to watch Discovery Channel as it is nothing but programs that pose questions and provide no evidence to support a position but rather lead one to think that in itself is "proof" of whatever it is they are peddling.

It's not my argument. It is argued in the Fermi Paradox. Try not to look at it in the frame of our human civilization time, which you are. An advanced civilization that developed half a billion or a billion years before us in our galaxy or another would have had time to advance way beyond our technology and evaluate a galaxy and perhaps other galaxies. Some of their technology would have been found. But as soon as we could monitor radio transmissions, nothing. So in the world of Fermi, where are the aliens?

Instead, the horizon is silent.

I am not saying life doesn't exist elsewhere. But these astrophysicists are depressingly persistent that life is rare, rarer and even rarer. And this strikes me with wonderment about our planet. Because it may be the rarest sort of planet that provided protection from space for billions of years so life could evolve. I then contend life is easy to begin and evolve with the right planet because it happened here. We are made of the stuff that the universe is made of and fused in the stars.
