Twenty-three students at a Chicago high school were honored Monday for a monumental academic achievement.

They all received a perfect ACT score.

“Today is one of those rare, extraordinary moments in a school’s history when we get to pause and celebrate academic greatness,” Rickey Harris, principal at Whitney Young Magnet High School, said.

It’s greatness, indeed.

Yeah, I’m 100% sure that’s on the up-and-up.

I never actually took the ACT

I only took the SAT because I was planning on only applying to the university of California

You aren’t supposed to get a perfect score when you get a copy of the test

ACT does composite scoring now IIRC so you don't have to get a 36 in each section on the same test date

Whitney Young is a superb school. Not totally surprising. It’s one of the 50 or so best public high schools in the country.

For as much deserved shite that CPS gets, a few of the magnet schools (Whitney Young, Walter Payton, Lane Tech) are truly excellent schools.

Based on the picture, it looks like the academic all stars lacked a specific culture

High schools today have classes dedicated to teaching the ACT. Practice tests, answers the whole deal. A 30+ used to be an anomaly, reserved for only the really smart kids. Now it’s very common. At the local high school, probably 15-20% of the kids get over 30 on the ACT. It’s not much of an achievement anymore.

The schools need their students to score high so the school gets a better rating and receives more money. The schools basically cheat on the kids behalf these days.

I was about to post something similar.

The ACT of today is not the ACT of yesterday.

Not doubting it’s an excellent school but a perfect score on the ACT is very rare. Approximately 0.25% of test takers get a perfect score. 23 kids in a single school getting that is against astronomical odds.

The school starts at the seventh grade. They want to establish expectations and knowledge into their students before they enter high school. The foundation for success is laid in the 7th and 8th grades.

There’s been stories about the competitive process and years of preparation parents and students endure to prepare for testing into the school, which occurs in the 6th grade.
