What movie genres do you find unbearable?

Found footage

A complete cop out of a film style usually requiring jerky camera movements and jump scares to garner a reaction.

I like horror. I put horror movies on in the background.

The found footage movies are just all around horrendous and boring, IMO.

Is that the Napoleon Dynamite type comedy?

I think the origin story movies for individual super heroes are often really good. Almost every other super hero movie boils down to a Manichean struggle with big head spinning action, car chases, explosions, etc that I just don't find very interesting. The individual super hero doesn't matter, the villain doesn't matter, it's just one set action piece after another, rinse, repeat.

I don’t hate the genre, but I find that almost all supernatural type horror movies are usually good for most of the time and then fall apart in the final act or final scenes. It’s like they have really good ideas and then the creators just gave up at the end on trying to have a reasonable resolution. So frustrating.

Slasher and torture porn horror. It does absolutely nothing for me. It's not scary. Not even a little. It's just kinda gross. Only realistic horror movies can actually scare me. Silence of the Lambs, We Need to Talk About Kevin, Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer, Misery....stuff like that freaks me out because there are absolutely people like that out in the world.

Anything comic book related I cannot watch. Haven’t seen but one or two and only because we were guests and the hosts insisted on showing them. Also, sci-fi is not my thing at all.

Satirical comedies. Movies like Airplane and Scary Movie are just too over the top for me and take me out of it.

I love horror but not all horror and I don’t particarly like found footage it there are some great ones.

What We Do In The Shadows is an me of the most well know .

But Deadstream is one of the most perfect splits between actual horror and comedy

100%, I remember going to see Blair Witch project and getting a terrible headache half way through because of the camera BS. That shite is awful

Did you get the same feeling from Saving Private Ryan? I watched that last night for the first time in at least a decade and the amount of shaky cam and Dutch angles was crazy

I don’t know what else to call it but movies filled with “Reddit humor”. Stuff like Taika Waitii comedies.

The reason I didn’t like Everything everywhere all at once is because it’s that kind of humor as well and it’s just cringe to me

I have a soft spot for found footage, but a lot of it is shite. However there are plenty of good to god tier FF

Just recently I watched Hell House Origins and it was really good. The ending wasn't great, but that's par the course these days. Good found footage can set up really creepy atmosphere without the jump scares Scruffy referenced in OP.

Then you have really creative examples like Savageland, Creep, Trollhunter, the 2 you mentioned (although I'm not a horror comedy guy so Deadstream was meh) and The Sacrament.

But there are some god-tier FF. Rec is one of the best horror movies made this century. The Borderlands/Final Prayer is elite. People rate Lake Mungo on the S-tier (not me so much) and I'll spin that around saying The Poughkeepsie Tapes is amazing (but many disagree). The Conspiracy is the best FF movie ever made.

The VHS franchise summarizes FF. Lots of bad but a few truly elite offerings.

I don't remember the last time I watched a horror movie and I'll pass on most science fiction, especially if the word Star is involved.

I'll give my response to OP now: John Wick derivatives (including John Wick sequels).

Nobody was OK, but the JW sequels are often blah and repetitive. Then you get Monkey Man, Boy Kills World, Gunpowder Milkshake, etc.

It needs to die and come back in a few decades.

John Wick was amazing and a lot of that was it's meta-comic take on the genre. Then it forgot the jokes and started taking itself seriously. Then other people started ripping it off with a catch ("John Wick but with x")
