Divorce Attorney Advice

I know I don’t post much but I’m here for advice. After 20 years I never thought I’d be asking this question. About to go through a divorce that I do not want. I’ve tried everything to avoid it but it’s coming. I’ve never had to deal with any of this before and I’m totally lost. I am trying not to get messy and want it to go as smooth as possible. My question is does it go better with both parties using the same lawyer or should I get my own? I pretty much k ow that answer but just looking for suggestions. Also, any recommendations on a good one in the Baton Rouge area. Have two young kids involved but we have agreed on a custody schedule.

Don’t do that. Your going to get fricked either way but maybe less so if you go get our own lawyer ASAP

What do you think caused it? Do you share any blame?

Read/Listen to “If you’re in my office it’s already too late”, quit posting here, and breathe.
But seriously don’t post anything here. Or social media.

Don’t use the same Lawyer. My brother was in your shoes and got fricked by the female Lawyer and his wife. He’s still paying for it 10 years later. Get a Bulldog and don’t give an inch.

Love these threads as sad as they are.

Get your own attorney. She will go back on everything she has agreed on up to now - bank on it. This will get ugly. Be ready for this.

Using the same attorney can be done but legally the attorney has to have one client. The ONLY way this works is if you trust your spouse 100% with zero wiggle room. Most attorneys won’t take this on regardless. Good luck, man.

Your situation sounds like a giant mess. Under no circumstances should you and you ex have the same attorney.

Get a good attorney.
Don't think of it as a cost. It's an investment. You'll save money in the long run with a good attorney who fights for you instead of rolling over.

This.
Once she starts meeting with her attorney and he/she tells them all they can get she'll go back on everything you've agreed to in regards to custody and the money, IMO.

So divorce attorneys don’t make $ when things settle quickly. They want the clients to think they are fighting for them. And make more $$$$.
It will easily run 5 figures.

lol. It’s a cost. You’re just giving money away, but that’s divorce in a nutshell.

Well, he said that there are kids involved, and that he doesn’t want the divorce. I’d say that it doesn’t sound pleasant.
