A new internet / cable company has been in my neighborhood spray-painting yards because they are about to chop up the yard to lay their new cables.

First.. they never asked permission to spray paint yellow, orange, red and blue lines all over my yard and next, they’ve never asked permission to dig up my yard to do this.

I will never use this cable internet company because I am perfectly happy with my current provider.

I worked hard getting my yard looking like a fricking putting green at the Masters and now this company is going to ruin it:

I really don’t want them chopping up my yard. I live on a corner lot where they have spray painted my front yard and my side yard and I am pissed off about this because it’s for a company that I will never use

Is there anything I can do about this?

When you bought the house you signed a document that said it was A OK with you for them to do this. I know, our hood was up in arms last hear when they did it to ours. Of course the neighborhood Karens got them to resod the areas that they tore up.....not thinking that we all dont have St Aug. I had to stop the crew in my yard from laying it down. I was just fine waiting the couple months for the zoysia to re establish.

I see it online all the time. People just have to get out there and bust their arse fixing it.

But hear this...you may at least be able to tell them that you don't want THEM fixing it. They are going to, unfathomable as it may seem, "insert", meaning "throw down" St. Aug or Centipede sod where they did the worst damage. And it sounds like you have bermuda....

Pics of your lawn?

I assume there is a utility esmnt or ROW through your yard so not much you can do. Modern cable placement should be almost invisible. They shouldn't trench like they used to but use a trenchless method. They replaced the natural gas lines to everyone's house in my hood recently and did horizontal boring from the street so they didn't have to dig up anyone's yard.

My neighbor talked to the workers and they said it’s the same as getting sprinklers installed in your yard. I wouldn’t really mind if it was winter but it’s in the middle of pretty yard season lol

Well I’m sure it’s in the contract we signed with the house so I’m shite out of luck but it’s bullshite

But I remember when I got my sprinklers installed a year or so ago / they shredded my yard and it took forever for it to look normal again. Supposedly it’s the same concept

Maybe you can take the opportunity to scalp/aerate/topdress or level...making it even better than before.

quit crying like a girl.
they’ll directional bore the conduit then pull the fiber; the only digging will be at the ends of each bore

When AT&T ran fiber in my hood. They didn't mess up any yards. The only place they disturbed the grass was where they installed the access boxes in the ground every few houses. They dug a hole for the boxes 1'x2' sized. Put the box in & put back the grass around the box where needed.
The fiber was run by boring & pulling the fiber through the conduit.

they used some contraption to drill mine in horizontally that barely left a mark.

They have an easement.

They painted in my yard a month or two ago but it was just to mark gas, water, and sewer lines. They dug in my neighbors yard and bored under mine.

Well my experience is a lot different than others in this thread.

Had ATT fiber and charter was coming through running lines. It's all contracted out so I doubt that matters.

They cut countless ATT fiber lines. Every other house had a temp fiber line run across the front yard for months, mine included. They hit sprinklers, they hit the city water pipe, they knocked out power to the neighborhood for 8 hours.

All in all, they hand dug 7 holes across my front lawn, then they buried the massive bore drill machine in my yard when it was too wet for a machine that large. The tracks were completely underground. It stayed there for 1.5 weeks. I went out raising hell that they were going to pay to have it all fixed just like it was. Of course, none of them spoke English.

They ended up "repairing" it, which was roughly grading it and putting down dead sod. There was no company decals, nothing that I could find to call. I top dressed it a few times and got it back to normal.

A piece of advice from a contractor.

#1- take pics of the spray painted area, congrats you have a layout of existing utilities in your yard within 5'.

#2 - take pics of everything in the general area ~ 15 off center of your basement. They only have a right to tear up installs in their basement. They do occasionally mess stuff up outside of that. They are supposed to fix it or compensate you.

#3 - most fiber is installed by horizontal boring. Take note of where your sanitary is and if it crosses their area. They will cross bore right thru it. If you at least let the crew doing the work know, they will put it a little effort to miss your stuff.

You name it and Vexus tore it up in Mandeville.
Main water lines, gas line, AT&T cable, electrical lines.

in 5-7 years you will barely be able to tell where they dug up your yard. 10 years max.

One of those companies put their box between my yard and my neighbors. Broke a sprinkler line, put the box in front of my sprinkler head and parked their skid steer in my side yard leaving a rut.

The silver lining here is that you can use their introductory rates to negotiate a lower rate with your current provider.
