HAHA wow. that went right over my head. They should silently "retire" those numbers to avoid such a situation. Like don't announce that you retire them, just don't let any players wear 28 or 3. Or maybe only allow oone of those numbers to be handed out at a time.

Can't let go 28-3. How about 62-7? Big Ben? Erxleben? 91 playoffs? Brees 5 int game? Yeah I know , the Saints have a ring. Ancient history. They're closer to winning than the Saints are. Besides, I'd take Blank over Gayle any day of the week. He's even gotten Hale in the sack. Allegedly

I absolutely guarantee you it’s not just the Saints that bring up 28-3 at every chance. Pretty much every non-Falcons fan base (r/NFL, team Instagram pages, too YT NFL accounts, etc) does because it’s the most inexplicable loss in the history of the sport

That was so long ago and before the age of social media that it’s been relegated to a trivia fact. Also it wasn’t a SB nor did Buffalo win the SB after that (they got annihilated by Dallas). Regardless, my point remains the Falcons still get trolled by every other fan base in the NFL
