Crawfish Boils - Are we still using newspapers for the eating table?

Newspapers are getting harder to find en bulk, and my wife hates me storing them through the year. What are the in-the-know folks moving to? And thank you!

Newspaper lined lined tables were necessary in the days prior to the white folding table. When folding tables were made of laminated OSB

You still need something to soak up the juice from the boil. Without paper or something similar it will run onto everyone clothes/shoes.
Newspaper is the tried and true best option. We get a paper at work every day and during the spring I will bring it home for a few days when I know we have a boil coming up.

I have a couple of those heavy duty plastic tables with the fold up legs that I use for boils. I just dump the seafood on the table and when done it's just a matter of hosing off the big stuff, hitting it with some dish soap and a sponge and a final rinse.
Then I let it outside to dry before storing it back inside.
No muss, no fuss with paper.

cardboard boxes if you don’t have newspapers

And then just the big round trays.

I keep a roll of semi-heavy duty craft paper with my boil stuff and roll out some of that on the tablle(s). It does a nice job.

I dump the pot into a ice chest and let gust use scoops to load up their round crawfish platers. I have plastic ones but they sell disposable paper ones. I put the fixings in bags and dump those out onto a couple of trays next to the ice chest.

I still use newspaper. There's just something satisfying and maybe nostalgic about having that spread laid out over two newspaper-covered folding tables placed end-to-end, the sides of corn, potatoes and sausage scattered throughout, family and friends gathered round.
I lay out a giant garbage bag on the table first then newspaper on top. When everybody is finished it's just a matter of reaching under and basically open the bag up on itself. Table cleaned in 5 seconds.

Gross.
Explain what is "gross" about it. It's fricking plastic, so it doesn't stain, doesn't absorb any odor and easy to clean.
I make sure my strainer of boiled seafood is well drained before dumping it on the table to eat. I've never had boil water running off the table on to the surface underneath the table.
Oh, and that surface is the floor of my man cave where I set up the table and some chairs so I don't have to deal with the ever present flies when eating outside. I turn on the A/C when I run to get the sack/sacks and by the time it's all ready to eat, the area is nice and cool with no bugs or heat from the sun.

A “man cave” and eating food straight off a plastic table that’s “cleaned” by spraying it with a garden hose.

Guess reading comprehension is not your strong suit then. In my original post I said I hose it off to get the big stuff off and use soap and a sponge to clean it before rinsing it off and letting it dry before putting it away.
Oh, and are you one of those newer kids who NEVER drank water out of a garden hose as a kid when outside in the summertime--------or did you not venture outside in the summertime, preferring to sit by a computer playing video games the whole time????

You are eating a crustacean that feeds on decaying animal matter and lives in the mud.
Are you worried your immune system may be affected by the plastic table?

I use kraft paper rolls or just dump them into and ice chest with a scoop. then put out a stack of crawfish trays.

Exactly what we do with contractor bags. My in-laws get the paper daily and bring it to us a couple times a year to re-up. We have cabinet storage in the laundry room, so it’s not a burden.
You can also use a roll of Visqueen and cut the table length amount off of it to replace contractor bags. It’s just so expensive we decided not to when we already have contractor bags on hand.

Relax, paw-paw.
Guess I struck one of your more "sensitive" nerves with that comment. When it's close to home, it hits the hardest doesn't it...........
