Did we learn nothing from Britney Griner?

Jarred Shaw, a 34-year-old basketball player in the Indonesian Basketball League, was arrested after allegedly attempting to smuggle illegal drugs into the country, police said Thursday.

Indonesia's strict drug laws have Shaw potentially facing a life sentence and even the death penalty if he's found guilty. Convicted smugglers have been executed by firing squad in the past.

Ronald Sipayung, police chief at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, said authorities raided Shaw's apartment just outside the country's capital of Jakarta, where they seized 132 pieces of cannabis candy.

Shaw, a Dallas native, played college basketball for Oklahoma State and Utah State. The 6-foot-10 forward saw more playing time with Utah State, averaging 28.3 minutes per game in 58 contests

It's hard to have any sympathy for anyone who does something this stupid. When you go to other countries you play by their rules or you don't go

If their laws call for the firing squad for him then so be it

That's a bit much for having a bag of edibles in your apartment.

Why does it matter they play a sport? Time to stop putting them on pedestals.

Indonesia doesn’t have Soros judges or prosecutors. I feel bad for this player, but how could he have been so stupid knowing how they punish drug possession?

While I can find that law draconian, at some point when you travel abroad you have to look up local laws and don't violate them.

Of course it is. But other countries are free to have any set of laws they want. If you don't like and don't want to follow their laws you don't go

The arrogance of some American's thinking they can just do whatever they want in other countries is crazy. They learn real quick America isn't nearly as bad as they think it is

When you get in country they give you a piece of paper with a skull and cross bones that tells you there is the death penalty for drug smuggling.

Will we be trading a terrorist or gun runner for him in a prisoner swap?

Indonesia rarely capitulates on these things. They executed some Aussies awhile back for something similar, despite public outcry and attempts to get them out.

Found the drug addict

Some of these drugs are so powerful that a grain of sand could kill a whole city. Not to mention how bad it stinks blowing out the windows of cars

Most Americans would agree. Indonesia is not America. When you leave our country and go to another country you play by their rules.
