Confirmation in the Catholic Church lowered from 11th grade to 7th grade

To my fellow Catholic Baton Rougeans with kids. Recently Bishop Duca has decided to move confirmation from 11th grade to 7th. This is odd to me and I don't think it's a wise move. I understand the strategy of netting young catholics before they have a chance to move away from the church but it seemed like giving an opportunity to grow into your faith.. To decide for yourself.
What are your thoughts. And before all you heretic waspy dickbags run in here to just shittalk the pope or whatever your sacrilegious plans are, we don't need it. I'm looking for Catholic (or otherwise proper) responses only.

I was supposed to get confirmed in 8th grade. Then that year they moved it to 11th. I didn’t go to a catholic school so I was never confirmed. Still go to mass every Sunday.

I actually wasn’t confirmed until I was 28 bc I didn’t feel my Faith was strong enough as a teen to take that step.

I was confirmed in the 7th grade.

i hope they adopt that in Lake Charles. I think its a great idea as many attend catholic school for elementary and middle but then go to public HS. Many times they dont finish through CCD for different reasons. I think its a good thing and it used to be 8th grade many places.

Nationally it used to be early like 7th/8th grade. Then it was kind of moved to 10th/11th grade. Now the word is that they're trying to move it earlier because traditionally it was at that time.
But I don't like it. I enjoyed preparing for the sacrament as an older person. It's just weird to do it that early.

My daughter missed her first communion at the normal 2nd grade time because of the pandemic, so our church wanted her to do first communion AND confirmation in 4th grade. This seems INSANE to me. We opted out of the confirmation part and just did first communion.
My understanding of why confirmation is usually done in 11th grade is because you are basically an adult and you are old and wise enough to make the decision (NOT your parents making it for you) to fully be initiated into the Catholic Church. Even most 11th grader's these days aren't mature enough for such a decision, but it seems like a huge mistake to allow 8th graders or lower do confirmation, if my understanding of the purpose of the sacrament is correct.

Well what are you waiting for? The sacraments are powerful. You can easily rectify this.

I was confirmed in the 9th grade, and my brother was in the 6th grade when he confirmed. 7th seems a little early, but 11th was way too long for both of my children.

11th grade is a late confirmation. I have had children confirmed around the 6th grade usually.

Around 8th grade is perfect imo. You have so much going on in your life in 11th grade it’s hard to focus.

It’s 8th grade in the Lafayette diocese.

I was confirmed in 11th grade and only took that step to not go against my parents wishes. By the time I was 19 I had moved out and changed to another faith on my own research.

it is up to the bishop but confirmation can be done as early as 7. But most bishops have decided to do it at 16.

I was confirmed in 8th grade. 7th seems fine too. So does 11th. Not really a big deal IMO.

This is exactly why it's being lowered back to 8th grade. Lots of kids are going on to public high schools and not getting confirmed.
