New Orleans is on track to have one of its most peaceful years on record just two years after a skyrocketing murder rate made the city one of the country’s deadliest. A total of 35 people have been killed in New Orleans this year, including the victims of the Bourbon Street attack.

Serious crimes have dipped in most major cities across the country in the years since the height of the COVID pandemic. On Tuesday, Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick attributed some of New Orleans' recent strides to a joint task force with federal law enforcement that began its work last August.

That group is made up of an undisclosed number of NOPD officers and agents with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. They have arrested more than 100 people and seized 85 guns.

If they are arresting the worst of the worst, then it will have an impact. Crime is down, but never out in New Orleans.

Ready to admit you lied about Trayvon martin being shot and killed by police?

I find it weird that you STILL won’t admit you lied about something that is so easily proven to be a lie.

I told yall a while back she looks weird and I had zero faith at first but over time that old lady police chief has done work.

I mean, you have to give her some credit if not the majority.

Statistics at this point. In five years, if violent crime remains lower, we can look to assign credit.

This and the state law enforcement resources put into the city. Amazing what happens when actual law enforcement is performed.

Troop NOLA and the AG's office prosecuting people arrested by them has made a drastic difference

I was there for Mardi Gras and it just felt palpably safer than I can ever remember. Noticeable police presence and even some national guard type of guys/equipment also.

No one, and i mean NO ONE, believes violent crime is down in New Orleans.

As a test, walk around the french quarter after 9 pm, alone. Or, take your kids down there in the evening. I hope to God you do not do any of this, but this just proves my point. NO is the most dangerous city in the country for a reason. No amount of propaganda from NOLA.com can change that reality nor smart people's mindset.

I wish it was safe. We used to make semi-regular trips to different restaurants in the city. But since Latoya's reign, i decided i didn't want my truck broken into, beaten unconscious, robbed, or my wife attacked. I know, silly me for not listening to leftist propaganda at the risk of me and my family's safety.

Its definitely down from what it was a few years ago. That doesn't mean its good, its still a shithole.

But there is a pretty noticeable difference since Troop NOLA, unbound by the Consent Decree, kicked into gear
