Shores was dealing

This is where Jay messed up, should have just threw junk to Laviolette and let Shores stay in the game. He was in the zone and pitching well.

CJJ handled that very well. Primeaux and Williams both got Laviolette in a high leverage position. Ware induced a swing bunt.

Shores doesn't miss many bats even with his 99 MPH fastball. Laviolette hadn't hit our lefties at all all weekend. It was 100% the right move to go to Ware and it worked.
I really thought CJJ handled the pitching changes perfectly in game three. We were set up to win the game in the 8th and we turned it over to our best reliever who has been nails all year. He just didn't have his best outing and made a mistake to a hot hitter.

What he said. Laviolette was obviously having trouble with L/L matchups. Jay was asking Ware to get one guy to setup for Cowan who had his first “bad” weekend of the year. It sucks to lose the series, especially to A&M, but pitching depending on the matchup worked.

This is another hindsight is 20/20 dumb post.
The lefty thing had worked to get Laviolette out with some ugly swings from him so why wouldn't we keep trying it?
Before yesterday's game, and based on performances this year, if I told you needed 4 outs to win would you have chosen Shores or Cowan?
Everyone who has watched this team this year would have chosen Cowan. If you say otherwise your probably full of shite.
We had the guy we wanted on the mound in the situation we wanted him in and unfortunately one pitch got hit. That's literally just how baseball goes sometimes.

He handle the pitching perfectly, we lost because the most consistent pitcher all year on the team made 1 bad pitch after A&M got two fluke hits before, I can live with that.

Pitching was fine
2 weak hits found grass and a future top 10 pick crushed what I thought was a well placed fastball. It happens

Johnson made the correct and logical move given how the weekend had gone with JL vs lefties. The problem was Cowan can give up hits and proceeded to have his worst weekend of the year, getting mashed both days.
If Cowan does that every weekend, there is little hope and not much Jay can do.
None of this matters if the team wasn’t abysmal at the plate. That’s the biggest impediment.

Again, the board is questioning pitching… they more than did their job. The offense has been absolutely awful on the road.

Cowan had a really rough weekend
.2 IP, 5 hits, 4 earned runs, 54.00 ERA

Cowan faced 7 batters this weekend and gave up 5 hits and 4 earned runs in the 2 games we lost by a combined 4 runs.
Crazy that was the difference this weekend from an otherwise reliable pitcher. Better he had that meltdown this weekend and not in the postseason

Absolutely did, but even still… 7 runs in 3 games isn’t going to cut it. Pitching gave up 10 runs all weekend.
You should win those series all day in college if you’re getting those pitching numbers.

It’s basically what happened with Jump and UNC last year. And again you just accept it. Put your best leverage guy out there with a chance to win it and live with the results.

CJJ handled it correctly, sometimes the right moves don't work in baseball.

You’re right, thanks. I edited the post.

No issues with taking him out when he did. And Ware came in and gave you exactly what you wanted, got weak contact that the ball just happened to fall in the exact right spot.

I think Jay made good pitching changes. The situation played out perfectly for preserving the lead with Cowan. It just boiled down to a rare bad outing from him and that was the game. He was due to have a subpar performance at some point. Would rather it happen now than in postseason.

That was actually a positive coming out of the weekend. Maybe shores can be effective coming out of the pen in the next few weeks

i tried to think of what everyone would come up with to blame that game on jj but I couldn't really come up with anything
