Renewals typically pass, all the folks stuck in the EBR school system are already paying it and they aren't going to "defund the schools" in their mind.

With that said how can the school district need the same money today when they serve about 10k less students a year?

Glad to see no new property taxes, for any reason. Govt needs to be more efficient and make do with less just like every taxpayer.

Fund fricking corrupt BREC to the tune of 3/4 of a billion dollars, but not the DA's office...?
How backwards and ignorant are the people of EBR?

The new DA mileage failed.

The five school system mileage renewals passed by approx 800 votes in each (55/45)

No new taxes baw. And I want BREC to stop taking our money too.

Also, we all know that the parish would just take money previously earmarked for the DA’s office and spend it elsewhere in the same amount the property tax would rake in.

Low low low turnout. In general that's probably good for renewals and bad for new taxes.

But it also is a strategy by large organizations (like the DAs office) to rig the vote by letting them flood the low turnout with members of the organization and their families.

If you dont overfund the DA and police in EBR then stop bitching about crime. YOU are part of the problem...the city is fricking dying...it was once a great place to live and raise a family..
Howabout pay for the things that matter....safety is priority #1, without it nothing else mayters or works....
This is insane. How do you imbeciles think this will get any better? By overfunding the libraries so homeless people can stay drugged out in air conditioning?? Or BREC so SWB' s relatives can keep their lucrative contracts and midnight basketball can flourish and grow?
The supidity in this town is mind boggling.

Yay. Reward the shittiest, fricking joke of a school system with horrendous grad rates and failing scores with more fricking money.

Bring on the SG school system. Let EBRPSS fall off the face of the earth for all I care. Just stop taking my money.

Let me start by saying I don’t live in EBR, and I’ve never really had close friends with kids in the school system. I see people post about it a lot, and it sounds like the schools do pretty well when they’ve got a solid student population. So, from the outside looking in, it just seems like a lot of the issues come down to demographics, more so than the school systems management.

BTW, if it was more money (higher rates) it likely would have failed. People tend to pass tax renewals more frequently than new taxes.

I’d imagine that, in the end, forming your own city and school district is going to cost more in taxes than what you were paying before. I’d think most people realize that, but felt it was worth it to separate from the demographics of Baton Rouge. So do you actually believe your taxes won’t go up; or are you okay with paying more as long as the money doesn’t go toward the city’s population?

I voted against every tax renewal and against the DA funding. I pay enough in taxes already. Here’s an idea, instead of hitting the public with even more taxes, be better stewards of our money and eliminate government waste. I will never under any circumstances vote for more government.

Media was complicit in this. If not for tigerdroppings, I would have no idea an election was yesterday. Also, we just had an election a month ago with no taxes on it. This election taxes were the only thing on the poll.

All by design.

This is why i strongly believe any tax proposal should only be brought up on the 2nd Tuesday in November. Putting a tax proposal on a run off ballot in May is a sham that allows the teachers groups to rally to pass the tax.

Another 10 years……

The problem with highly dysfunctional places like BR & NoLA is when you vote to not increase taxes (and rightfully so) the Government doesn't say "ok well I guess we gotta figure this out with a smaller budget" instead they will simply deliver fewer services to taxpayers at an even lower quality.

Just precipitates the decline.
