What's the closest you ever come to "unaliving" someone?

I lived with my BIL, who used to be a bad alcoholic for a short time years ago.
He had not been home for 3 or 4 days, which wasn't unusual then.
One Wednesday night at around 2am, I was woken up by the sound of someone trying to kick the front door down. I jumped out of bed, grabbed my pistol and headed towards the door.
Look out the window and couldn't see anything because he had knocked the light out.
I screamed several times "Who is it" and "I have a gun". The kicking on the door increased and no one answered.
I raised my gun and thought to myself that if that door comes open, I'm blowing this person away.
Knocking stops for a few seconds and the doorknob slowly turns, as soon as the door was unlocked, my BIL fell into the house drunk off his arse!
I could feel my finger pressing against the trigger and still to this day I don't know how the gun didn't go off.
Ever come close to giving someone a dirt nap?

I laundered money in the Ozarks. Got in with some heroine growers selling on the water, the preacher was unaware.
He figured it out and kidnapped my wife, but I found him and accidentally killed him.

I shot through the door at a home intruder hoping to scare him away before he entered the room. I inserted another magazine in case it didn’t work. It worked.

Spotlighting one night w a buddy when we were kids. Had the gun on my shoulder and my finger on the trigger like a dumbass with him walking behind me. Was young and stupid. Would never do that today. Anyway, tripped and gun went off just missing my buddies head. Still think about that to this day and it scares the shite out of me.

Hit a pedestrian with a vehicle. Luckily it was at a stopsign. Didn't see them trying to cross in front of my vehicle as I was looking down the road. When I took off, I bumped them over into the street. Also lucky that nobody was coming down the cross street or ran them over. Thankful to the sweet baby Jesus every day. Just a bump on the head from the pavement, nothing serious. Scared the hell out of me.

As far as almost killing someone, a wreck. I T-boned a car from their left side of car. I hit the back row of seats. If I was a split second earlier or I didn't slam my brakes, I would've probably hit them on front row. Not sure if enough force to do it or not.

Intentionally or unintentionally?

Threw a guy through a plate glass window. He was squirting blood all over the place someone dialed 911 and ambulance came and picked him up. All I heard was he got like 350 stitches. His girlfriend was not happy.

Drunk or not, I don’t care who you are. If you kick out my light and are kicking my front door like that you’re getting an arse whipping. Hell might even have earned a few pistol whips too

While I was in the military or after?
Close to “unaliving” someone or really ending them?

A week ago on Wednesday. Neighbor, in her drunken stupor, decided to come into my house at 2AM.
When I heard the key in the door, I aimed right at whoever was coming in. Saw it was her and told her it was a good way to find herself unalived
She thought I had asked her to come feed my dogs......at 2AM.......on a Wednesday.
could've ended bad.

Guns don't go off. You don't know how you didn't finish pulling the trigger, is what you meant.

My wife pretty much beat the shite out of him before I could pull her off of him.
He ended up getting clean for a little while after that, but it didn't last long.

I was doing some wading, just about dark, on the Arkansas/Oklahoma border. Suddenly there was this midget gawking at me....
