Oh no, tariff bros. Hermes is increasing the price of their Birkin bags. $20k to $22k.

Luxury items should be taxed more than regular items. Overpaying for a logo is what luxury brands are about, so the buyers should be happy.

That makes me grin. If someone is deemed worthy enough by Hermes to purchase Birkins at retail you are foolish not to buy them. You can turn around and sell them within a few days for at least 75% more than you paid. A lot of women on the Hermes VIP list buy a bag, carry it for a season, and sell it for 50%+ over what they paid and start over again. It is the same with Ferrari, and Porsche GT car drivers and people that buy certain Rolex, AP, and Patek watches among a lot of other Veblen goods. Supply and demand allows HNWI and UHNWI to own luxury goods and get paid for the privilege.

Yep. It's a process to buy directly from Hermes. A lot of volume in the secondary markets. Scarcity principle at play. I think I read once that the returns on certain styles have outpaced gold.

While the Birkin 25 in Togo leather starts lower than that it just the start for the rare Birkins. This is a 25 in Himalaya Croc with diamond and palladium hardware, and on the secondary market they sell for $500k+ in uncarried condition.

I think you have to go through a process before you can purchase one of the bags, you’ll be spending a lot more before you get to bag level. If you get caught selling one I think you get banned from the list for life.
