Toppin was going to be a late first round pick so it was going to take a massive bag to keep him in school.

But to your point, LSU's $8 million will put them in the middle of the pack in the conference, but it is 4x what the 24-25 roster had in it.

Texas Tech has a couple of billionaire former football player alums. They have struck gold in the oil business and continue to start up companies and eventually sell them off.

Texas Tech has 0 National Titles across Football, Men’s Basketball, and Baseball. This is their only way to strive for real success.

Basketball is all Texas Tech has, so what did you expect?

B12 will be a bloodbath next year. AZ and Houston have also reached for the checkbook.

Texas Tech has younger boosters and a young, very smart AD who developed the rev share model that everyone is using. Exciting times in Lubbock.

I’d actually be upset if we played a basketball player that much

The rantards believe we can hire a coach on the cheap, let him scrap for NIL dollars, and then out smart thd opposition and become a perrenial contender.

That's the going rate for paying someone to live in Lubbock for a year.

Hell, even BYU is paying a guy $3.5 million.

Tax the church! (Obligatory just kidding)

If lsu is paying 8 mil for the roster they have now then they are wasting tons of money.

They really only brought in one high priced guy, dedan thomas.

They had to pay Reed and Miller and Givens also. They are bringing in top recruits from different conferences. Most of the players for Auburn and FL came from similar conferences so you don't know what they have.

I bet you havent been to Lubbock in awhile?

All that money that went to Dallas (from W Texas) to get invested now gets invested where it came from.

They are no formal contracts reported. All of the NIL amounts reported are complete speculation and conjecture. Much of this is fed by "agents" to the media. They have a vested interest in making the amount the market appears to be paying go higher, and higher, and higher (even if it is not accurate)

Last year, ahead of the season, the school most in basketball circles felt was paying the most in NIL was Arkansas, at an estimated TOTAL $5M...for the entire roster! While I have no doubt the market has increased, I seriously doubt it's increased to the point where one player is getting $4M

Looks like McMahon and his boys have another excuse for next year.

"but we only had 8 million dollars for a roster, now we need 80 million."
