re: 3D printer advice - Christmas present

Been kinda researching myself and pretty sure I’ll be going with an Elegoo Centauri Carbon. It’s for my son, but I want to use it more than him lol. He just wants to print simple stuff but I want to do more functional things for in the car, outdoors, etc so need to be able to do ABS or ASA which the A1 can’t since it doesn’t have an enclosure. Would like the P1S bc of the AMS option but don’t want to get up there in price just yet. Can always get another down the road.
re: Should some parishes in Louisiana adopt Antler restrictions?

I'm in the same boat as you. I hunt a ton of public across the state, mainly bowhunting, and I pass a ton of bucks that I don't want to kill every year. If the next person shoots it and is happy with it, more power to them. I'll congratulate and help them drag it out and shoot the bull after the hunt as well. To each his own. Just because I want to shoot bigger deer doesn't mean I expect the next person to do the same. Not to mention if I bring my kids, I much rather let them make the decision of what they want to shoot as it makes for a miserable hunt if you see a good buck that doesn't necessarily fit the restrictions and have to tell them "nah you can't shoot that one, its not big enough". Good way to ruin our future hunters.

They did this several years ago in a tri-parish area including Iberville and I don’t remember the other two to be honest. Think it was 6 pt or better for a couple years but don’t think the data proved the point of harvesting bigger deer. Someone may remember it more than me. Probably been 15-20 years ago.

Stuffing tube, foot pedal for on/off, and poly bags for grind are the only way I'll do it now. I've done it with the vacuum seal bags and all that but I find the poly bags last just as long as I need them to in the freezer which is about 1-2 years. I clean my meat and divide it into 8 lbs (I mix my grind 80% deer 20% beef fat). I put my 8 lbs deer and 2 lbs beef fat into a tote and season it like I want (before I grind anything, helps with the mixing to me) then do my course grind. Continue this until all of my meat has gone through the course grind, mix everything up even better, then change to my fine grind plate and stuffing tube with the poly bags. Use a tape dispenser once i get my 2 lb bags filled and into the freezer they go. No extra work added. Everything else I'll vacuum seal and label.
ETA: I didn't even answer the main question. I have an LEM #22 like you're looking into and its perfect for my needs of a couple deer a year.

That’s the way I read and interpreted it as well. Bowhunted there a good bit, sounds like that’s all over now but never called to verify.
re: What Outdoor Stuff Did You Buy Today?

Ordered a holster for my thumb trigger release that i can clip onto my bino harness or belt. Will be nice to not have to worry about digging in my pocket or backpack for it.

Males are around 60-65lbs, females 50-55lbs...Very athletic build from my experience. My male is 10 months and just over 60lbs.

I haven't got my normal swarms either. Wondering if its due to the warm weather and limited fronts we've got so far if it maybe backed up their migration or something and they just haven't made it here yet. Gonna keep the feeders full for the next couple weeks just in case.

Highly recommend Huntfield Kennels as was stated above. I got a puppy from them early this year and this is the best dog I've ever had so far.

Was in the same boat. I have suppressors for the rifles but needed something when shooting the shotguns. Walkers has a buy one get one free promo for one of their muffs that blocks out the high decibel noises. Used them this past weekend and they’re kinda nice. I’m sure they have better options but they serve the purpose.
re: Planted the foodplots today here in North Louisiana.
Posted by RedBeardBaw on 9/24/25 at 3:34 pm to Crappieman
I planted 2 weekends ago up there with cereal rye, coker oats and little bit of turnips. Got 1/4" of rain this past Sunday, and should be getting more today if not already. I planted super heavy so curious to see how it comes up. There wasn't much rain in the forecast when i planted so I made sure I had enough in case the birds got into it and covered as much as i could.

Pretty intrigued by these. Looks like Beast stick knock offs, but that price is nice for what you get with the 4 pack.
Trophyline Rivals
I have a set of tethrd skeletors that I use on a normal basis, and a set of old school lone wolfs but I can't stand having only single sided steps...makes it a pain trying to hand stands but doable. Much rather double steps.

I have one thats about 5 years old or so and literally just noticed today that the plastic piece that the clear tube connects to the tank cap is broken. Ordered a replacement tube and parts along with the hose bender for around $10. Should be here tomorrow.
ETA: first time I've ordered replacement parts for them but they seem to be pretty easy to find and cheap. How they'll hold up is anyone's guess.

I did the same. I have the big one and the thing is huge. Well worth the money, and they're cheaper than the majority of other blinds.
re: 2025 Honda Rubicon shifting issue, dealer/Honda not assisting
Posted by RedBeardBaw on 8/4/25 at 3:06 pm to Marciano1
I have a 2015 rubicon deluxe automatic dct eps with the same issue. I bought it used though, so not sure if it always had the problem or not. I just chalked it up to an annoyance and I have to hit the shifter a couple times here and there to get it to shift from neutral into gear. I normally run it in automatic, so not sure if its the same when shifting through the gears, never really paid attention. What I do know for certain though, is that everything on these bikes revolve around the battery as everything on them is electric. A weak battery can ruin your day in multiple ways. Another tip if you take it miles away hunting or wherever, get you a battery jump starter just in case for peace of mind.
re: Countertop Reverse Osmosis water filter Recs
Posted by RedBeardBaw on 7/10/25 at 1:35 pm to RaginCajunz
I have the same one that I installed early this year. While not a countertop filter, its under the cabinet and out of the way. I have it piped directly to my fridge water dispenser. I like it. The water tastes like...........water lol. Couldn't drink my tap water before and had to buy bottled water. That changed when this was installed. Cheap, easy to install, and tastes good.

A little meatball stew and a few old fashioneds to wash it down. Let’s go.

I'm guessing you mean the sump pump....You should be able to buy any one and install it yourself. It's not difficult. I have a "little giant" and it works well but not cheap.
re: Dog kennel recommendation
Posted by RedBeardBaw on 5/27/25 at 3:11 pm to RedBeardBaw
Just had another thought. It would be riding in the back some of the time, but when I have my 4-wheeler in the bed, I'll need something that can fit in the back seat of my crew cab gmc....I don't think the Gunner would fit. Guess I'll need to break out a tape measure. That may narrow down my choices as well.
Dog kennel recommendation
Posted by RedBeardBaw on 5/27/25 at 2:23 pm
I have a new lab and looking into dog kennels when going from home to the camp in North LA or wherever else. He hates riding in the front for some reason and hes getting too damn big to sit on somebody's lap. I've put him in a cheap wire kennel when going down the road and he seems to like it just fine in the back of the truck. been looking at different kennels and was wondering if its worth spending the money on a Gunner kennel or if somebody has recommendations on others that are worth a look.
re: Benjamin Moore Paint, is it the real deal?
Posted by RedBeardBaw on 5/8/25 at 10:34 am to iwyLSUiwy
We used BM and are highly satisfied with it. We used the Regal line. For the paint contractors that I've talked to, they try to use SW because their contractor price for the same thing is a lot cheaper for them vs the comparable contractor pricing from BM. Take that for what its worth. They're both great quality and shouldn't have issue with either.
